Yamaha CHR12M 12-Inch Passive Floor Monitor

The Yamaha CHR12M is a 2-way passive floor monitor that places a 1.75-inch compression driver coaxially within a 12-inch woofer. The low-profile wedge cabinet is made of plywood, using the same construction approach as Yamaha's higher-end CZR Series, and is driven by an external amplifier.

It is aimed at bands, worship teams, rental companies and venues that need dependable stage wedges, particularly where a central amplifier rack is already in use or where Yamaha PX Series amplifiers can supply dedicated tuning.

Key Features

Two Yamaha CHR12M coaxial floor monitors in wedge position

Coaxial 12-Inch Driver for Accurate Monitoring

The 12-inch woofer (2.5-inch voice coil) and the 1.75-inch, 1-inch-throat compression driver share a common axis, crossing over at 1.5 kHz. Yamaha notes that this coaxial layout gives smooth phase and frequency response, so performers hear a consistent sound even when they move around the wedge.

57° Wedge Angle with 90° x 90° Coverage

The cabinet aims sound up towards the performer at a 57° angle, with a symmetrical 90° by 90° nominal coverage pattern. The low profile keeps sightlines clear on stage.

Power Handling of the CHR12M Floor Monitor

The CHR12M is rated at 250 W noise, 500 W program and 1,000 W peak into a nominal 8 Ω load. Sensitivity is 93 dB (1 W, 1 m) and Yamaha quotes a calculated peak of 123 dB SPL, with a frequency range of 61 Hz to 20 kHz (-10 dB).

Rugged Plywood Cabinet

A plywood bass-reflex enclosure keeps unwanted vibration low, and the black polyurea coating stands up to scuffs from regular gigging and transport. It weighs 15.6 kg and has a side handle for carrying.

Three Parallel speakON Connectors and Side Pole Socket

Three speakON NL4MP connectors are wired in parallel, giving flexibility when linking wedges on a single amplifier channel. A 35 mm pole socket on the side lets the CHR12M be mounted on a stand when needed.

Dedicated Presets with Yamaha PX Series Amplifiers

Yamaha says CHR Series speakers get dedicated speaker processor tuning settings when driven by Yamaha PX Series amplifiers (firmware 1.63 or later) or other compatible signal processors. This simplifies setting up wedge mixes with correct protection and voicing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the CHR12M need an amplifier?

Yes. It is passive, rated at 500 W program into 8 Ω. Yamaha's PX Series amplifiers (PX3, PX5, PX8 and PX10 are sold at YMS) include dedicated CHR Series presets with firmware 1.63 or later.

What is the difference between the CHR12M and the DHR12M?

Both are 12-inch coaxial wedges with a 57° angle. The DHR12M is powered, with a built-in 1,000 W amplifier, DSP and two-channel mixer, while the CHR12M is passive and needs an external amplifier.

Why does it have three speakON connectors?

The three speakON NL4MP connectors are wired in parallel, which gives more options for routing cables and linking monitors on stage.

Can I use it as a front-of-house speaker?

Yamaha designed the CHR12M as a floor monitor. It has a side pole socket for stand mounting, but for main PA duties the CHR15 is the model Yamaha intends as a main speaker.

How big and heavy is it?

It measures 500 x 343 x 454 mm (W x H x D) including rubber feet and weighs 15.6 kg.
