Yamaha DHR12M Powered Floor Monitor

The Yamaha DHR12M is a 2-way, bi-amped powered loudspeaker designed first and foremost as a floor monitor. A 12-inch woofer and a 1.75-inch HF driver sit in a space-saving coaxial arrangement, driven by a 1,000 W (dynamic) Class-D amplifier with Yamaha DSP, all inside a low-profile plywood cabinet like those used in the higher-end DZR Series.

It is built for singers, musicians and presenters who need a clear, consistent monitor mix, and for sound engineers who want a wedge that is quick to set up. The onboard two-channel mixer and side pole socket also make it handy as a compact stand-mounted speaker when the job calls for it.

The DHR12M mounts its 1.75-inch compression driver coaxially with the 12-inch woofer, a space-saving layout that gives precise, smooth phase and frequency response for monitoring. Coverage is a wide, symmetrical 90° x 90°.

A lightweight Class-D amplifier supplies 1,000 W dynamic power, split 800 W to the woofer and 200 W to the HF driver (465 W continuous). The DHR12M reaches 129 dB SPL peak, giving loud stages plenty of monitor level.

FIR-X tuning for clarity

Yamaha's FIR-X tuning uses linear-phase FIR filters at the 1.8 kHz crossover, adjusting frequency, phase and time alignment between the drivers together. The smoother crossover region improves clarity and imaging compared with a typical crossover, and 24-bit converters keep the signal clean.

D-CONTOUR monitor mode and high-pass filter

D-CONTOUR is a multi-band compressor that keeps the sound clear at any level. Its MONITOR mode reins in excess low end for a cleaner wedge mix, while the high-pass filter (100 Hz or 120 Hz, 24 dB/octave) trims low frequencies further or helps you add a subwoofer.

Built-in protection

A microprocessor and DSP watch the power supply, amplifiers, drivers and signal, applying limiting and protection functions derived from Yamaha's professional power amplifiers. LIMIT and PROTECTION indicators on the rear panel show when they are working, so the DHR12M can run hard with confidence.

Two-channel mixer on board

Channel 1 has a combo jack with a MIC/LINE switch, and Channel 2 adds a combo jack plus stereo RCA inputs for a playback device. The XLR output can pass Channel 1 alone or send a mix of both channels to another speaker in the chain.

Low-profile 57° plywood wedge

The compact plywood enclosure sits at a 57° floor-monitor angle and minimises cabinet vibration for clearer sound. A durable polyurea coating gives it a scratch-resistant black finish that stands up to life on stage.

DHR12M side pole socket

A 35 mm pole socket on the side lets you put the DHR12M on a speaker stand. At 16.5 kg with a side handle, it is easy to move between the stage floor and a stand.

What is the difference between the DHR12M and the DHR12?

The DHR12M is a floor monitor with a 1.75-inch coaxial driver, 90° x 90° coverage, a 57° wedge angle and a side pole socket (16.5 kg). The DHR12 is a main or utility speaker with a 1.4-inch driver on a rotatable 90° x 60° horn, 48 Hz–20 kHz range, 130 dB SPL, dual-angle pole sockets, M10 rigging points and an optional U-bracket (19.2 kg). Both use 1,000 W dynamic amplification.

Should I choose the DHR12M or the passive CHR12M?

The CHR12M shares the coaxial design and cabinet size but is passive, so it needs an external power amplifier and connects by speakON. The DHR12M has its own 1,000 W amplifier, DSP and two-channel mixer, so you can plug a mic or mixer straight in.

Does the DHR12M need an external amplifier?

No. It is a powered speaker with a built-in 1,000 W (dynamic) Class-D bi-amplifier.

Can I plug a microphone straight into it?

Yes. Input 1 is a combo jack with a MIC/LINE switch, so it accepts a microphone or a line signal. For several sources, feed it from a mixer.

What is in the box?
