Yamaha CBR15 15-Inch Passive Loudspeaker
The Yamaha CBR15 is a 2-way, bass-reflex passive loudspeaker that combines a 15-inch cone woofer with a compression driver on a wide-dispersion horn. It is the largest model in Yamaha's CBR Series and reaches the lowest of the three, down to 46 Hz, while keeping the cabinet in tough, lightweight plastic at 17.7 kg.
Because it is passive, the CBR15 is meant for users who already run, or plan to buy, a separate power amplifier. It suits front-of-house sound for bands and DJs, floor monitoring on stage, and installations where you want solid low end and high output without the weight of a wooden cabinet.
Key Features

15-inch woofer with a compression driver
The low end comes from a 15-inch cone with a 2.5-inch voice coil, while a compression driver with a 1.4-inch voice coil handles the highs above a 2.0 kHz crossover. Yamaha customised both transducers for this series, so the CBR15 stays clean and detailed as you push the level up.
Even coverage from a constant-directivity horn
A newly designed wide-dispersion horn reduces the drop-off that ordinary horns show at off-axis angles. Sound spreads in a more rectangular pattern across a nominal 90° by 60° area, so listeners near the edges hear a more consistent tonal balance.
CBR15 power handling and output
The CBR15 is rated at 250 W noise, 500 W program and 1,000 W peak into a nominal 8 ohms. With 96 dB sensitivity at 1 W, 1 m and a calculated peak of 126 dB SPL, it has plenty of headroom for live music, DJ sets and events.
HF protection for worry-free shows
A built-in protection function limits excessive input to the high-frequency unit, guarding the compression driver if levels are pushed too far. Paired with a responsive low-frequency unit, it helps the speaker deliver clear sound reliably at any volume.

Light, rugged plastic cabinet
The compact plastic enclosure is durable yet easy to move, with two ergonomic side handles to speed up loading and setup. A steel front grille protects the drivers and gives the speaker a clean look in installed systems.

Simple speakON and 1/4-inch connections
The rear panel offers one speakON NL4MP connector and one 1/4-inch phone jack. That makes it quick to hook up to a power amplifier whether you use speakON cables on professional systems or jack cables in simpler rigs.

Wedge shape for CBR15 floor monitoring
Lay the cabinet on its side and it sits at an optimised 50° angle, ready to use as a stage monitor. Its symmetrical shape lets you place two units in a mirror-image setup for a wider, better-defined listening area for the performer.
Pole socket and M8 rigging points
A 35 mm pole socket on the bottom lets you raise the speaker on a stand. For installations, M8 rigging points (two on the bottom, one at the rear) accept standard M8 x 15 mm eyebolts or Yamaha's optional speaker brackets.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Yamaha CBR15 need an amplifier?
Yes. The CBR15 is a passive loudspeaker with no built-in amplifier, so it must be driven by an external power amplifier suited to its 8 ohm nominal impedance and its 250 W noise / 500 W program rating.
How is the CBR15 different from the CHR15?
Both are passive 15-inch, 2-way speakers with the same 250 W noise, 500 W program and 1,000 W peak rating. The CBR15 uses a lighter plastic cabinet (17.7 kg) and reaches 46 Hz, with 96 dB sensitivity. The CHR15 uses a polyurea-coated plywood cabinet (22.0 kg), reaches 49 Hz, has 95 dB sensitivity, two parallel speakON connectors, dual-angle 0° or -7° pole sockets and M10 rigging points.
Should I choose the CBR15 or the powered DBR15?
The DBR15 is the powered model with the same external dimensions, and it has its own 1,000 W (dynamic) Class-D amplifier, DSP and a two-channel mixer, so it only needs a line or mic signal. Choose the CBR15 if you already have a power amplifier or want to run several passive speakers from one amp rack.
What connectors does the CBR15 have?
It has one speakON NL4MP connector and one 1/4-inch phone jack for connecting to your power amplifier.
Can the CBR15 be used as a stage monitor or mounted?
Yes. The cabinet has a 50° wedge angle for floor-monitor use, a 35 mm pole socket for a speaker stand, and M8 rigging points for eyebolts or optional Yamaha speaker brackets (BBS251, BCS251, BWS251-300 and BWS251-400).
Is there a cover for the CBR15?
Yes. Yamaha lists the SPCVR-1501 functional speaker cover as a compatible option for the CBR15, sold separately. Yamaha notes the cover does not guarantee protection against dripping water.
