Yamaha FG830 Solid-Top Acoustic Guitar
The Yamaha FG830 is the rosewood model in Yamaha's FG/FS800 Series of acoustic guitars. It combines a solid spruce top with rosewood back and sides, Yamaha's scalloped bracing and a full-size Traditional Western body, finished in gloss Natural with an abalone soundhole inlay.

Rosewood Back and Sides on the FG830
The FG830 is the only model in the FG/FS800 Series with rosewood back and sides. Yamaha uses rosewood here to add depth to the sound, with richer overtones and improved sustain compared with the mahogany and nato/okume models in the range. The result is a fuller, more complex voice for chords and single-note lines alike.
Solid Spruce Top
A solid spruce top sits at the heart of the FG830. Solid tops respond readily to both light fingerpicking and hard strumming, giving the guitar a clear, lively sound with good dynamic range.
Newly Developed Scalloped Bracing
Yamaha's R&D Division used acoustic analysis and simulation, rather than tradition or guesswork, to design the scalloped bracing pattern used across the FG/FS800 Series. It is designed to give a louder, stronger low and mid-range while keeping the top board durable. On the FG830 this adds weight and body to the rosewood-and-spruce voice.
Full-Size Traditional Western Body
The FG830 uses Yamaha's Traditional Western body shape, 412 mm wide and 505 mm long, with a depth of 100-118 mm. This large body moves plenty of air, giving strong projection for strumming, accompanying singers and playing unplugged with others.
650 mm Scale and Comfortable Nato Neck
The FG830 has a 650 mm (25 9/16") scale, a 43 mm nut width and 11.0 mm string spacing at the bridge. The nato neck has a matt finish and carries a rosewood fingerboard with a 400 mm radius, a combination that feels smooth and familiar for chord work and lead playing.
Abalone Inlay and Cream Binding
The FG830 is the most decorated model in its series, with an abalone soundhole inlay framed by black and white rings. Cream body binding, a tortoise-pattern pickguard and a gloss Natural finish complete its classic look.
Quality Hardware
Die-cast chrome TM29T tuners hold the FG830 steadily in pitch, while the rosewood bridge, urea nut and saddle and black ABS bridge pins with white dots complete the hardware. The guitar comes strung with Yamaha FS50BT or D'Addario EXP11 strings.
Built on the FG Heritage
Yamaha's FG series began in 1966 with the FG180 and FG150, and more than 200 FG models have followed since. Each FG is made with carefully cured and dried woods, hand-sprayed finishes and detailed quality-control checks, so the FG830 is built to last for many years of playing.

Should I choose the FG830 or the smaller FS820?
The FS820 uses Yamaha's smaller, thinner concert body (380 mm wide) with a shorter 634 mm scale and mahogany back and sides. Choose the FG830 if you want the bigger sound and projection of a full-size Traditional Western body, or the FS820 if you prefer a more compact guitar for comfort and fingerstyle playing.
Does the FG830 have a pickup?
No. The FG830 is a purely acoustic guitar with no electronics. If you need to plug in, the FGX800C in the same series adds a cutaway and Yamaha's pickup and preamp system.
What comes in the box?
Yamaha supplies the FG830 with a hex wrench for truss-rod adjustment. A case is not included, so we recommend adding a gig bag or case for transport and storage.
