Yamaha FS820 Concert Acoustic Guitar
The Yamaha FS820 is a concert-size acoustic guitar from Yamaha's FG/FS800 Series. It pairs a solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides and Yamaha's scalloped bracing, in a smaller, thinner body with a 634 mm (25") scale and a gloss finish.
Yamaha designed the FS body with younger players and smaller-framed guitarists in mind, and it equally suits intermediate and advanced fingerstyle players. If a full-size dreadnought feels bulky, the FS820 offers solid-top tone in a guitar that is easier to hold and play for long sessions.
Key Features
Compact FS Concert Body
The FS820's concert body is 380 mm wide and 90-110 mm deep, noticeably smaller and slimmer than Yamaha's Traditional Western shape. It sits comfortably against the body, making the guitar easier to reach around and well suited to fingerpicking and seated playing.
Solid Spruce Top on the FS820
A solid spruce top gives the FS820 a clear, lively voice with good dynamic range. It responds well to a light touch for fingerstyle work and still has the punch to cut through when strummed.
Mahogany Back and Sides
Mahogany back and sides give the FS820 a warmer and stronger sound than the nato/okume FS800. Combined with the spruce top, the result is a focused, full voice that works well for accompanying vocals and for melodic fingerpicked parts.

Newly Developed Scalloped Bracing
Yamaha's R&D Division used acoustic analysis and simulation to arrive at the scalloped bracing pattern used throughout the FG/FS800 Series. It is designed to bring out a louder, stronger low and mid-range while maintaining the durability of the top. In the compact FS820 body, this helps the guitar sound bigger than its size suggests.
25" Scale for Easier Fretting
The FS820 uses a 634 mm (25") scale with a 43 mm nut width and 10.0 mm string spacing at the bridge. The nato neck has a matt finish and a fingerboard with a 400 mm radius, giving a relaxed, comfortable feel for chords and fingerstyle patterns.

Five Gloss Finishes with Cream Binding
Yamaha offers the FS820 in Natural, Black, Ruby Red, Autumn Burst and Turquoise, all with a gloss body finish. Cream body and fingerboard binding give it an upgraded look, and the pickguard is tortoise pattern, or black on the Black and Turquoise finishes.
Dependable Hardware
Die-cast chrome TM29T tuners keep the FS820 stable in pitch, with a urea nut and saddle and black ABS bridge pins with white dots. The fingerboard and bridge are rosewood or walnut, and the guitar is strung with Yamaha FS50BT or D'Addario EXP11 strings.

Built on the FG Heritage
Yamaha's FG series dates back to 1966, and the FS concert body was added to the line-up as an alternative to the traditional FG shape. Every model is made with carefully cured and dried woods, hand-sprayed finishes and detailed quality-control checks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the FS820 different from the FS800?
Both have a solid spruce top, scalloped bracing and the same concert body and 634 mm scale. The FS820 upgrades to mahogany back and sides (the FS800 uses nato/okume), has cream rather than black body binding, and comes in five gloss colours. Yamaha describes the FS820's sound as warmer and stronger.
Should I choose the FS820 or the FG820?
They share the solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, scalloped bracing and cream binding. The FG820 has the larger Traditional Western body (412 mm wide) with a 650 mm scale and 11.0 mm string spacing for more volume and projection, while the FS820's smaller, thinner body and 634 mm scale are more comfortable for smaller players and fingerstyle.
Is the FS820 good for smaller or younger players?
Yes. Yamaha designed the small, thin FS body with female and younger players in mind, and notes that it also suits intermediate to advanced fingerpicking players. It is still a full-scale steel-string guitar, not a 3/4-size model.
Does the FS820 have a pickup?
No. The FS820 is a purely acoustic guitar with no electronics, controls or output jack.
What comes in the box?
Yamaha includes a hex wrench for truss-rod adjustment. A case is not included, so we recommend adding a gig bag or case to protect the guitar.
