Yamaha FS400C Concert Cutaway Acoustic Guitar

Compact Concert Comfort. Modern Matte Style. Clear Yamaha Acoustic Tone.

The Yamaha FS400C is a compact concert cutaway acoustic guitar designed around comfort, portability and a clean modern aesthetic. Its 380 mm body width and 25-inch scale make it approachable for younger players, musicians of smaller stature and anyone who prefers a more compact alternative to a dreadnought. The cutaway provides easier access to the upper fingerboard for melodic passages and lead playing.

A spruce top, locally sourced tonewood back and sides, rosewood fingerboard and carefully designed bracing create a balanced acoustic voice for practice, fingerstyle, songwriting and light-to-moderate strumming. An ultra-thin polyurethane finish allows the wood’s texture and resonance to remain central to the instrument’s feel.

Concert cutaway body for comfort and upper-fret access

The 497 mm-long, 380 mm-wide body is easier to hold than a traditional dreadnought while retaining useful acoustic depth and projection. Its cutaway opens the upper register for melodic work and lead passages.

Spruce top with carefully designed bracing

The spruce soundboard supports clarity, projection and a versatile dynamic response. Yamaha’s bracing design helps the compact body produce an open, resonant sound for fingerstyle, chord accompaniment and everyday practice.

Ultra-thin matte finish with understated design

The simple exterior omits a pickguard and body binding, placing the wood texture and clean body lines at the centre of the design. The thin polyurethane finish supports a natural feel and open acoustic response.

25-inch scale and 43 mm nut for approachable fretting

The 634 mm scale provides a slightly more relaxed feel than many longer-scale acoustics. A 43 mm nut and 10 mm bridge string spacing keep chord shapes accessible while providing practical room for fingerstyle work.

Rosewood fingerboard and bridge with matte neck finish

The rosewood fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface, while the matte-finished neck helps the fretting hand move naturally during chord changes, scales and fingerstyle exercises.

Purely acoustic construction with no onboard electronics

The FS400C is designed for natural acoustic playing and does not include a factory pickup, preamp or output. Players who need built-in amplification can consider the Yamaha FSX400C.

Q. Who is the Yamaha FS400C best suited to?

It suits beginners, younger players, fingerstyle musicians, songwriters and anyone who wants a comfortable concert-size acoustic for home practice, lessons or informal performance. The cutaway also benefits players who regularly use the upper frets.

Q. What is the difference between the FS400 and FS400C?

The FS400 uses a conventional concert body without a cutaway. The FS400C uses a concert cutaway body for easier access to higher frets. Their scale length, core materials and purely acoustic specification are otherwise closely related.

Q. Does the FS400C have a pickup?

No. It is a purely acoustic model without onboard electronics. The amplified counterpart is the Yamaha FSX400C, which adds an active pickup system, EQ, tuner and line output.

Q. Is the spruce top solid?

Yamaha specifies the material as spruce but does not list it as a solid top. The description therefore does not claim solid-spruce construction.

Q. Is it smaller than a dreadnought?

Yes. Its concert body is 380 mm wide, compared with the broader Traditional Western body used by models such as the F400. This makes it easier for many players to hold and reach around.

Q. Is a gig bag included?

Yamaha lists a hex wrench as the standard accessory, not a gig bag. YMS can help you choose a suitably sized concert-guitar bag or case, along with a tuner, strap, capo and spare strings.

Q. Which finishes are available on this listing?

This listing offers Natural Satin and Smoky Black, subject to current availability. Select the preferred finish from the product options before ordering.
