Yamaha FG820 Acoustic Guitar

Solid Spruce Clarity. Mahogany Warmth. Full-Size Yamaha Projection.

The Yamaha FG820 is a full-size Traditional Western acoustic guitar that combines a solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides. Its broad body produces confident volume and low-end presence, while the mahogany construction adds warmth, strength and a focused midrange that complements vocals and rhythm playing.

Newly developed scalloped bracing helps the soundboard respond freely without sacrificing dependable structural strength. Cream body and fingerboard binding give the FG820 a clear visual step up from the FG800, while five finish choices make it easy to select a look that suits the player.

Traditional Western body with powerful acoustic projection

The full-size dreadnought-style body delivers strong lows, clear mids and the headroom required for energetic strumming. It is especially effective for vocal accompaniment, group practice, songwriting and unplugged performance.

Solid spruce top for clarity, dynamics and long-term tonal development

Spruce balances brightness, warmth and dynamic range across different playing styles. Because the soundboard is solid wood, its acoustic character can gain additional openness and richness with regular playing.

Mahogany back and sides add warmth and a strong midrange

Compared with the Nato/Okume construction of the FG800, the FG820's mahogany body gives notes a warmer, more focused character. Chords remain full and supportive without losing definition in a vocal mix.

Scalloped bracing supports responsive, balanced resonance

Yamaha's scalloped bracing design allows the solid top to vibrate efficiently while maintaining strength. The result is a firm fundamental, responsive dynamics and a warm, powerful acoustic voice.

Cream binding provides an upgraded, stage-ready appearance

Cream body and fingerboard binding frame the instrument with a more refined look, complemented by black-and-white soundhole detailing, die-cast chrome tuners and a gloss body finish.

Five expressive finishes for traditional and modern tastes

This listing is available in Autumn Burst, Black, Brown Sunburst, Natural and Sunset Blue. Each finish preserves the FG820's solid-top construction, full-size projection and gloss appearance.

Q. Who is the Yamaha FG820 best suited to?

It suits developing players, singers, songwriters and experienced guitarists who want a full-size solid-top acoustic with the warmth of mahogany and stronger cosmetic appointments than an entry-level model.

Q. How is the FG820 different from the FG800?

The FG820 uses mahogany back and sides instead of Nato/Okume and adds cream body and fingerboard binding. This gives it a warmer, stronger tonal character and a more refined appearance.

Q. Does the FG820 have a solid top?

Yes. The soundboard is solid spruce, paired with mahogany back and sides and Yamaha's newly developed scalloped bracing.

Q. Is the FG820 an electro-acoustic guitar?

No. The standard FG820 is a fully acoustic, non-cutaway model without factory electronics. A compatible aftermarket pickup can be fitted by a qualified technician if amplification is required.

Q. Is it suitable for fingerstyle as well as strumming?

Yes. Its strongest suit is full rhythm projection, but the solid spruce top, balanced response and 11 mm string spacing also support fingerstyle, arpeggios and melodic accompaniment.

Q. Is the body comfortable for smaller players?

The Traditional Western body is full size and prioritises projection. Players who prefer a smaller, shallower instrument may find the Yamaha FS820 concert-style model more comfortable.

Q. Does the guitar include a case?

Yamaha does not list a case as standard equipment. A suitable padded gig bag or hard case is recommended for transport, storage and protection from changing environmental conditions.
