Where the MG Range Becomes a Proper Console
The MG12 is the first MG with subgroups, two AUX sends, full-size faders and an internal universal power supply. Twelve channels: four mono mic/line on combo jacks, two more that take a mic on XLR or a stereo line, and two stereo line channels. Two subgroups and two aux sends give you real routing rather than one stereo mix.
It is a working desk for a band with a drum kit, a church, a school auditorium or a rehearsal space — anywhere you need to group the drums under one fader and run two separate monitor feeds. No effects and no USB on this model.

What You Get
- Six mic inputs on D-PRE preamps — four combo mic/line channels plus two that switch between an XLR mic input and a stereo line pair.
- Two subgroups. Bus the drums or the backing vocals to a pair of group faders and control them as one, instead of chasing six channels at once.
- Two AUX sends — two independent monitor mixes, or one wedge feed plus one send to an outboard effects unit.
- One-knob compressors and three-band EQ — 100 Hz shelving, 2.5 kHz peaking mid, 10 kHz shelving, all ±15 dB — plus an 80 Hz high-pass filter on every mono channel.
- Internal universal power supply, 100–240V. No wall-wart to lose, and it survives unstable mains better.
- 2 × 12-segment LED metering, channel faders, 308 × 118 × 422 mm, 4.0 kg. Optional RK-MG12 rack kit.
Reading the MG Model Names
Yamaha's MG names are a code, and once you know it the whole range makes sense at a glance:
- The number is the channel count — 06, 10, 12, 16, 20.
- X adds the SPX digital effects processor (reverbs, delays, chorus).
- U adds a USB audio interface for recording straight to a computer.
- F means channel faders instead of rotary knobs.
- K means the reverse — knobs instead of faders, for a shallower, lighter console.
So the MG12 is twelve channels, no effects, no USB. The MG12X adds SPX; the MG12XU adds SPX and USB. The MG12XUK is a different shape of console entirely — twelve channels on knobs, with one send and no subgroups.

FAQ
Q. How many microphones can I actually plug in?
Six. Channels 1–4 are combo jacks that take a mic or a line source; channels 5/6 and 7/8 each take a mic on XLR or a stereo line pair, but not both at once. Channels 9/10 are line only.
Q. What do the two subgroups actually do for me?
They let you control several channels with one fader. Route four drum mics to Group 1 and the whole kit moves together. On the MG10 series, which has no groups, you would be riding four faders at once.
Q. Is the mid EQ sweepable?
No — the MG12 family has a fixed 2.5 kHz mid, same as the MG10 series. A sweepable 250 Hz–5 kHz mid appears only on the MG16 and MG20 consoles. If you regularly need to hunt boxiness around 300–500 Hz, that is the reason to step up.
Q. Should I buy the MG12X or MG12XU instead?
If any vocal goes through it, the MG12X adds 24 SPX reverb and delay programmes for a modest step up. The MG12XU adds a USB interface on top. The plain MG12 makes sense when you already own outboard effects or a separate interface.
Q. Can it be rack-mounted?
Yes, with the optional RK-MG12 kit. Note that the larger MG16 and MG20XU include their rack-mount kit in the box.
