Yamaha MG12 12-Channel Analog Mixing Console
The MG12 is where the MG range gains full console routing. It offers four mono mic/line channels, two channels that take either a mic or a stereo line source, and two stereo line channels, all on faders. Two group buses, two AUX sends and an internal power supply round it off, with no built-in effects or USB.
It suits bands that need separate monitor mixes, churches, school auditoriums, conference venues and small installations where reliable analog mixing matters more than effects. With the optional RK-MG12 kit it can also be rack-mounted.
Key Features
Six D-PRE Mic Inputs on the MG12 Mixer
Channels 1-4 use balanced combo jacks, and channels 5/6 and 7/8 each have an XLR mic input as well as stereo line jacks, giving up to six microphones in total. All mic inputs use Yamaha's discrete Class-A D-PRE preamps with an inverted Darlington circuit, and one +48V switch powers condenser mics.
Two AUX Sends with Pre/Post Switching
AUX 1 and AUX 2 each have a PRE switch that sets the send before or after the channel fader. Use pre-fader sends for stage monitor mixes that stay steady while you adjust the front-of-house mix, or post-fader sends for an external effects unit.
Group Buses for Easier Live Mixing
Each channel can be assigned to the stereo bus, to GROUP 1-2, or both. Route drums or backing vocals to the group and control them with a single fader, send the group to the stereo mix, or use the GROUP OUT jacks to feed a recorder or a separate zone.
1-Knob Compressors and Three-Band EQ
Channels 1-4 have Yamaha's 1-knob compressor, which sets threshold, ratio and gain together for steadier vocals and instruments. Channels 1 to 7/8 get a three-band EQ with 10 kHz and 100 Hz shelving and a 2.5 kHz peaking mid (+/-15 dB), and an 80 Hz high-pass filter on the mic inputs clears rumble.
Faders, PFL and Monitoring
Channel faders, a GROUP 1-2 fader and a STEREO master fader make it easy to ride levels and see the mix at a glance. PFL switches let you solo a channel in headphones, and the monitor SOURCE switch chooses between the stereo and group buses for the MONITOR OUT and PHONES jacks. A 12-segment stereo LED meter shows output levels.
Internal Power Supply on the MG12 Analog Mixer
The MG12 has a built-in universal power supply for 100-240 V mains, so it runs on a standard AC cord rather than an external adaptor. The powder-coated metal chassis measures 308 x 118 x 422 mm and weighs 4.0 kg, and the optional RK-MG12 kit lets you rack-mount it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the MG12, MG12X and MG12XU?
All three share the same channel layout, preamps, groups, AUX sends and chassis. The MG12X adds Yamaha's SPX effects with 24 programmes, and the MG12XU adds the same effects plus a 24-bit/192 kHz USB audio interface. The MG12 has neither effects nor USB.
Should I choose the MG12 or the MG10?
The MG10 has four mic inputs, rotary level knobs, one AUX send, no group buses and an external adaptor. The MG12 offers up to six mic inputs, faders, two AUX sends with pre/post switching, two group buses and an internal power supply. Choose the MG12 if you need more than one monitor mix or more mics.
What comes in the box?
Yamaha lists the AC power cord, the Owner's Manual and the Technical Specifications sheet. The RK-MG12 rack-mount kit is sold separately.
Can I record to a computer with the MG12?
There is no USB audio interface on the MG12. You can connect its stereo or group outputs to a separate interface, or choose the MG12XU, which has USB audio built in.
Can I connect stereo keyboards and phones?
Yes. Channels 9/10 and 11/12 are stereo line inputs with phone and RCA jacks, and channels 5/6 and 7/8 also take stereo line sources when you are not using their mic inputs.
