Twelve Channels and Six Mic Inputs, in the Smallest Body Yamaha Offers
The MG12XUK takes a different approach to the rest of the MG12 family. Instead of faders and subgroups it uses rotary knobs and a single FX send, which lets Yamaha fit six mono mic/line channels and three stereo line channels into a chassis 125 mm shallower and over a kilo lighter than the MG12XU — while keeping the 24-programme SPX effects and the 24-bit/192 kHz USB interface.
That makes it the cheapest route to twelve channels with both effects and USB. It suits fixed installs, AV racks, conference and worship spaces, podcast and streaming desks, and anyone who moves a mixer often and does not need separate monitor mixes.

What You Get
- Six mono mic/line channels, all on combo jacks with D-PRE preamps — every mic input is a full channel, not a shared mic-or-stereo compromise.
- USB Audio Class 2.0 interface, up to 192 kHz at 24-bit, with a Cubase AI download included.
- SPX effects, 24 programmes, with parameter control and an FC5 foot-switch jack.
- One-knob compressors and three-band EQ (100 Hz / 2.5 kHz / 10 kHz) with 80 Hz high-pass filters on the mono channels.
- 315 × 91 × 297 mm, 3.0 kg — against 308 × 118 × 422 mm and 4.2 kg for the MG12XU. It fits shelves and racks the fader version will not.
- Balanced XLR and TRS stereo out, monitor out, headphone out, external PA-10 adapter supplied.
Reading the MG Model Names
Yamaha's MG names are a code, and once you know it the whole range makes sense at a glance:
- The number is the channel count — 06, 10, 12, 16, 20.
- X adds the SPX digital effects processor (reverbs, delays, chorus).
- U adds a USB audio interface for recording straight to a computer.
- F means channel faders instead of rotary knobs.
- K means the reverse — knobs instead of faders, for a shallower, lighter console.
So the MG12XUK is twelve channels with effects and USB, on knobs. The K is the whole point: it buys you size, weight and price at the cost of subgroups and a second send.

FAQ
Q. What am I giving up compared with the MG12XU?
Four things: channel faders, two subgroups, the second AUX send, and the internal universal power supply (the XUK runs from an external adapter). Its metering is also 7-segment rather than 12-segment. The preamps, effects, EQ, compressors and USB interface are the same class of parts.
Q. Can I run a stage monitor mix from it?
Not an independent one. The single send is an FX send feeding the internal effects. If a band needs foldback, buy the MG12XU or larger — this is the main reason not to choose the XUK.
Q. Why does it have more mono channels than the MG12XU?
Different layout. The XUK gives you six dedicated mono mic/line channels and three stereo line channels. The MG12XU has four mono channels plus two that can be either a mic or a stereo pair — so both take six mics, but the XUK never makes you choose.
Q. Can I record each channel separately?
No — the USB interface carries a stereo mix. For multitrack, look at the MGX12 or MGX16.
