Yamaha Arius YDP-146 Digital Piano
The Yamaha Arius YDP-146 is an 88-key console digital piano that brings the sampled sound of Yamaha's CFX concert grand into a compact home cabinet. A Graded Hammer Standard keyboard, three grand-style pedals and VRM Lite string resonance give it the touch and response needed to learn properly, while Bluetooth and the Smart Pianist app add modern practice tools.
It is aimed at beginners, school-age students and adults returning to the piano who want a proper home instrument rather than a portable keyboard. The cabinet's rounded corners, sliding key cover and two headphone jacks make it a practical family piano for living rooms and apartments.
Key Features

GHS weighted keyboard on the YDP-146
The Graded Hammer Standard keyboard feels heavier in the low register and lighter towards the top, just as a grand piano does. Matte black keytops and improved sensors help with grace notes and trills, and four touch settings let you tailor the response.

Yamaha CFX concert grand Voice
The main piano Voice is sampled from the CFX, Yamaha's flagship concert grand, with each note carefully adjusted for an even, colourful tone from treble to bass. With 192-note polyphony, there is plenty of headroom for sustained, pedalled passages.

VRM Lite string resonance
Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite simulates how a grand piano's strings resonate with one another. The effect changes with the timing of your notes and how far you press the pedals, so the piano responds more like a real instrument.

Three pedals with half-pedalling
Damper, sostenuto and soft pedals are laid out as on a grand piano. The damper supports half-pedalling, so you can control how long notes ring by how far you press, a skill that matters more as pieces get advanced.

Diffuser grilles for clearer sound
Two 12 cm speakers powered by 8 W x 2 amplifiers sit behind diffuser grilles that keep treble notes clear even at a distance. The result is a balanced sound for both the player and anyone listening in the room.

Comfortable headphone practice
Two headphone jacks allow quiet practice or a teacher and student to listen together. The Stereophonic Optimizer makes the sound feel as if it comes from the piano rather than inside your head, and Intelligent Acoustic Control keeps the tone balanced at any volume.

Songs, Voices and recording for practice
The YDP-146 includes 50 classical pieces from the supplied music book and 303 lesson exercises by Beyer, Burgmüller, Czerny and Hanon. A metronome, Duo mode, a 2-track recorder and 10 Voices, including electric piano, pipe organ, vibraphone and strings, add variety to everyday practice.

Bluetooth and Smart Pianist
Bluetooth audio lets you play music from your phone through the piano's speakers and play along, while Bluetooth MIDI connects to the free Smart Pianist app for easy control and sheet music of all 353 preset songs (Bluetooth availability varies by country). USB TO HOST also links the piano to a computer as a 24-bit USB audio interface.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the YDP-146 differ from the YDP-166?
Both share the Yamaha CFX Voice, VRM Lite, 192-note polyphony, three pedals and Bluetooth. The YDP-166 steps up to a GrandTouch-E keyboard with escapement and synthetic ebony and ivory keytops, and 20 W x 2 amplification, while the YDP-146 uses the GHS keyboard and 8 W x 2 amplification and is lighter at 38 kg.
Should I consider the Clavinova CLP-825 instead?
The CLP-825 adds a GrandTouch-S keyboard, GrandTouch pedals, Grand Expression Modeling, full VRM, a Bösendorfer Imperial Voice and 256-note polyphony. The YDP-146 covers the essentials for beginners and early grades, while the CLP-825 suits players who want a more grand-like touch for longer-term study.
What is in the box?
Yamaha lists the Owner's Manual, warranty, the 50 Classical Music Masterpieces music book, online member product registration, a bench and a PA-150 (or Yamaha-recommended equivalent) AC adaptor. Yamaha notes that the bench and adaptor supplied can vary by area.
What power does the YDP-146 use?
It runs from the Yamaha PA-150 AC adaptor or an equivalent recommended by Yamaha (12 V DC in), draws about 9 W and has an auto power-off function.
Is the YDP-146 suitable for a beginner?
Yes. Yamaha designs the Arius YDP-146 for beginners and home practice, and its weighted 88-key GHS keyboard, three pedals and lesson songs give a learner a sound foundation for regular lessons.
