Yamaha Clavinova CLP-825 Digital Piano
The Yamaha Clavinova CLP-825 is the entry model of the CLP-800 series and the most compact console in the range, at 411 mm deep. It brings the series' core piano technology, including the GrandTouch-S keyboard, GrandTouch pedals, Grand Expression Modeling and the Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial Voices, into a straightforward cabinet without a display.
It suits students, families and returning players who care most about touch and tone and want a focused piano rather than a feature-heavy one. With 303 lesson songs, Duo mode for teacher and pupil, and Smart Pianist app support, it also works well as a long-term instrument for graded piano study at home.
Key Features
GrandTouch-S keyboard on the CLP-825
The 88-key GrandTouch-S action is built to convey the feel of a grand piano action, with escapement and synthetic ebony and ivory keytops. Four touch settings (Hard, Medium, Soft and Fixed) let you match the response to your playing or a younger learner's hands.
Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial
Both principal piano Voices come from flagship concert grands: Yamaha's own CFX, known for its brilliance, and the Bösendorfer Imperial from Vienna, with its warmer colour. With 256-note polyphony and 10 Voices in total, the focus stays firmly on piano playing.

Grand Expression Modeling
Grand Expression Modeling reads the depth as well as the speed and strength of each keystroke and works out how a grand piano would react. Light, fast passages stay crisp and even, while a fuller touch opens up the tone, so practice translates better to an acoustic piano.

Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM)
VRM simulates in real time how string vibrations travel to the soundboard and to other strings, so the sound changes naturally with the notes you hold and how far you press the damper pedal. The result is a fuller, more lifelike resonance than simple sampled playback.

GrandTouch pedals
The three pedals (damper with half-pedal, sostenuto and soft) recreate the way a grand's damper pedal feels heavier going down and lighter on the return. That makes it easier to learn controlled half-pedalling, a key skill in classical repertoire.

Binaural CFX sound on headphones
The CFX Voice is binaurally sampled with microphones placed where a pianist's ears would be, so it sounds natural and spacious on headphones during late-night practice. Two headphone jacks and the Stereophonic Optimizer, which treats the other Voices, make shared or quiet practice more comfortable.

Clear sound from a compact cabinet
Two 12 cm speakers with diffusers and a 20 W x 2 amplifier spread the sound evenly into the room, and Intelligent Acoustic Control keeps the tone balanced at low volumes. At 1,350 mm wide and 411 mm deep, the CLP-825 fits comfortably into apartments and smaller rooms.

Practice tools, Bluetooth and Smart Pianist
Built-in content includes 50 classical pieces and 303 lesson songs by Beyer, Burgmüller, Czerny and Hanon, plus a metronome, Duo mode and a 2-track recorder. Bluetooth audio lets you play music from your phone through the piano's speakers, and Bluetooth MIDI connects wirelessly to the Smart Pianist app (Bluetooth availability varies by country).

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the CLP-825 different from the CLP-835?
Both use the GrandTouch-S keyboard, GrandTouch pedals, CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial Voices and 256-note polyphony. The CLP-835 adds a display, 38 Voices, 20 rhythms, a 16-track recorder, USB audio recording to a flash drive, binaural Bösendorfer sampling and larger 16 cm speakers with 30 W x 2 amplification. The CLP-825 is lighter and slimmer, and has no display.
Should I choose the CLP-825 or an Arius YDP-166?
The CLP-825 steps up to the GrandTouch-S keyboard, GrandTouch pedals, Grand Expression Modeling, full VRM, the Bösendorfer Imperial Voice and 256-note polyphony. The YDP-166 uses a GrandTouch-E keyboard, the CFX Voice with VRM Lite and 192-note polyphony. The CLP-825 therefore gives a closer approximation of grand piano touch and tone.
What is in the box?
Yamaha lists the Owner's Manual, the 50 Classical Music Masterpieces music book, online member product registration, a bench and the PA-300C AC adaptor with power cord. Yamaha notes that the bench and adaptor supplied can vary by area.
What power does it need?
The CLP-825 runs from the Yamaha PA-300C AC adaptor (16 V DC in) and draws about 12 W. It has an auto power-off function to save energy.
Can I connect it to a phone, tablet or computer?
Yes. Bluetooth audio and MIDI (availability varies by country) let you stream music and use Yamaha's Smart Pianist app, and the USB TO HOST port connects to a computer, where it also works as a 44.1 kHz, 24-bit USB audio interface.
