The Yamaha PSR-E383 is a 61-key portable keyboard built around touch-sensitive keys, so notes get louder or softer depending on how firmly you play. Play harder and the sound grows louder; play gently and it softens. This touch response lets beginners build real finger control and dynamics from the start, which carries over naturally to an acoustic or digital piano later. Sensitivity can be set to Soft, Medium or Hard, or switched off.

650 Voices with Super Articulation Lite

Choose from 650 Voices covering pianos, organs, guitars, bass, strings, sax, trumpet, drums and percussion, with a dedicated Portable Grand button for instant piano. Twelve Super Articulation Lite Voices recreate playing nuances of acoustic instruments, such as guitar harmonics, for more convincing performances.

Keys to Success and 3-Step Lessons

The 3-Step Lesson walks you through the built-in Songs in stages for listening, timing and waiting, with the right hand, left hand or both. Keys to Success breaks Songs into short phrases so you can master difficult parts one at a time, and the keyboard rates your practice to keep you motivated.

260 Styles, Smart Chord and Auto Chord Play

Styles add drums, bass and chords that follow your left hand, so even simple playing sounds like a full band. Smart Chord lets you trigger full accompaniment by playing just the root note, and Auto Chord Play offers 50 chord progressions that play automatically while you focus on the melody.

DSP effects, Harmony and Arpeggio

Forty-one DSP effect types, such as delay and distortion, sit alongside reverb, chorus and 26 Harmony types to colour your sound. The arpeggiator turns a held chord into one of 152 patterns, adding movement for both practice and simple song creation.

Duo mode for teacher and student

Duo mode splits the PSR-E383 into two identical halves, each with its own middle C, so a teacher and student, or two siblings, can play the same part side by side. It makes home lessons and shared practice much easier on a single instrument.

Recording, USB audio and Rec'n'Share

A built-in recorder captures up to five Songs across two tracks, so you can record the left hand and practise the right hand over it. The USB to Host port carries MIDI and 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo audio to a computer or smart device, and Yamaha's Rec'n'Share app lets you film and share your playing.

Portable, battery-powered design

The PSR-E283 is Yamaha's entry-level model with 410 Voices (392 Voices plus 18 drum/SFX kits), 150 Styles, 122 Songs and 32-note polyphony. The PSR-E383 steps up to 650 Voices, 260 Styles, 125 Songs and 48-note polyphony, Yamaha's PSR-E383 specs also include adjustable touch response, Keys to Success lessons, Auto Chord Play and a USB to Host port for audio and MIDI, none of which appear in the PSR-E283's official specs.

Should I choose the PSR-E383 or the PSR-E483?

Choose the PSR-E383 if your priority is learning: it has 125 lesson Songs, Keys to Success and Duo mode, and weighs just 4.4 kg. The PSR-E483 suits more advanced players, adding 860 Voices, 345 Styles, 64-note polyphony, a pitch bend wheel, Live Control Knobs, microphone input, line outputs, Quick Sampling, a Looper and 6 W + 6 W speakers.

Is the PSR-E383 or the PSR-I300 better for Indian music?

The PSR-I300 is Yamaha's India-specific model, with 30 Indian Voices, 30 Indian Styles, 10 Raga scale Songs and 15 Riyaz tabla/tanpura patterns. The PSR-E383 offers more Styles (260 against 224) and Auto Chord Play, and suits learners who mainly play Western and international music.

What comes in the box with the PSR-E383?

You get the keyboard, the AC adaptor (PA-130 or a Yamaha-recommended equivalent) and a music rest. The Song Book for the built-in Songs is a free download from Yamaha. A stand, sustain pedal, headphones and bag are bought separately.

Can the PSR-E383 run on batteries?

Yes. Along with the AC adaptor, it runs on six AA alkaline, manganese or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, which makes it handy for travel or rooms without a nearby socket.

Does the PSR-E383 have a microphone input or connect to a computer?

It has no microphone input. It does have a USB to Host port that carries MIDI and audio to a computer or smart device, plus an AUX IN for playing along with a phone or music player, a sustain pedal jack and a combined headphones/output jack.
