Product details
Reverb and Chorus From Inside the Guitar, in a Body Built for Comfort.
The Yamaha TAS1E is a second-generation TransAcoustic concert-style guitar with a solid spruce top and mahogany back, sides and neck. An actuator mounted inside the body responds to the vibration of the strings, so reverb and chorus are created in the guitarβs own air chamber and radiate out of the sound hole β there is no speaker, no amplifier and no pedalboard involved.
Its narrower waist and shallower depth make the TAS1E easy to hold for long stretches, whether you play seated on the sofa or standing at a rehearsal. Three simple dials set room-to-hall reverb, chorus depth and line-out volume, and the SYSTEM70 preamp with under-saddle piezo pickup sends a clean signal to an amp, PA or audio interface through the end-pin jack.
Key Features
TransAcoustic reverb and chorus, unplugged
A single internal actuator transmits string vibration into the body and air chamber, generating genuine reverb and chorus that you hear and feel from the guitar itself. Nothing needs to be plugged in, so the effects are available the moment you pick the instrument up.
Concert body that sits comfortably for hours
At 380 mm across the lower bout and 90β115 mm deep, the concert shape is noticeably smaller than a dreadnought. It suits smaller frames and sofa playing, and its focused, even response rewards fingerstyle and vocal accompaniment.
Three dials, nothing to learn
The Reverb dial sweeps from off through room reverb to hall reverb. The Chorus dial moves from a gentle doubling to full modulation. The Volume dial sets line-out level and switches the effects on and off with a press. That is the entire interface.
Solid spruce top over mahogany
A solid spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides gives clear attack and a warm midrange that opens up as the top plays in. The body structure is optimised specifically for TransAcoustic use, so the effects sit naturally inside the acoustic voice rather than on top of it.
SYSTEM70 preamp and under-saddle pickup for stage and recording
An under-saddle piezo pickup feeding the SYSTEM70 preamp lets you run straight into an acoustic amp, PA or audio interface through the LINE OUT end-pin jack, with the onboard volume dial setting the level.
Refined second-generation looks, gig bag included
A gloss body with black binding, transparent pickguard, blue ripple sound-hole inlay and die-cast chrome tuners gives TAS1E a clean, modern presence. Choose Natural, Sand Burst or the distinctive Ultra Marine. A stiffened fabric gig bag and hex wrench are supplied.
FAQ
Q. Do I need an amplifier to hear the reverb and chorus?
No. TransAcoustic effects are produced by an actuator inside the guitar and radiate acoustically from the body and sound hole. An amplifier is only needed if you want to project the guitar to an audience through the LINE OUT jack.
Q. How is the TAS1E different from the TAG1E?
They share the same electronics, woods, 650 mm scale and 44 mm nut width. TAS1E uses the smaller concert body β 380 mm wide and 90β115 mm deep β for comfort and a focused voice, while TAG1E uses the larger dreadnought body for more volume and low end. Finish options differ: TAS1E offers Ultra Marine where TAG1E offers Translucent Black.
Q. What effects does the TAS1E have?
Reverb and chorus. The TAS1E and TAG1E are the entry models in the second-generation TransAcoustic range and do not include the delay or Bluetooth audio features found on the TAS1C and TAG1C.
Q. How is it powered, and how long does the battery last?
Two AA batteries power the system β unlike the TAS1C/TAG1C, which use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The electronics switch off automatically after roughly 30 minutes without playing to conserve power.
Q. Is the top solid or laminate?
The top is solid spruce. The back, sides and neck are mahogany, with a walnut fingerboard and walnut bridge.
Q. Is a concert body a good choice for a smaller player or a beginner?
Yes. The shallower, narrower body is easier to wrap an arm around than a dreadnought, which makes longer practice sessions more comfortable without giving up a full 650 mm scale length.
Q. Can I record it into a computer?
Yes. Connect the LINE OUT end-pin jack to an audio interface or mixer with a standard 6.3 mm instrument cable. The pickup signal carries the TransAcoustic effects when they are switched on.
Q. What is included in the box?
A stiffened fabric gig bag and a hex wrench, with Elixir NANOWEB 80/20 Bronze Light strings fitted. Yamaha's specification sheet calls this a βhard bagβ, but it is a padded semi-rigid fabric bag rather than a moulded hard case. Batteries and cables are not listed as included.
