The Yamaha CSF1M is a modern short-scale parlour guitar that combines the portability of a travel guitar with the focused tone of a parlour body. It has a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, Yamaha's newly designed scalloped bracing and a passive under-saddle piezo pickup, so it can be plugged in as easily as it can be played unplugged.

It is aimed at players who want a compact guitar that still sounds full, whether for travel, sofa practice, songwriting, home recording or small gigs. The 600 mm scale also makes it a comfortable choice for players with smaller hands or anyone who finds a full-size dreadnought bulky.

Compact Parlour Body, Full-Size Sound

The CSF1M body is just 450 mm long and 85-105 mm deep, which many players find more comfortable than a large acoustic. Yamaha redesigned the CSF construction to increase bass response and overall volume. The result is a surprisingly full, rich sound from a small guitar.

Scalloped, Forward-Shifted Bracing

The CSF series uses newly designed scalloped bracing that gives resonance Yamaha compares to that of a full-size guitar. The bracing is also shifted forward, which keeps the body strong while letting the top vibrate as freely as possible. This is the main reason the CSF1M sounds bigger than its size suggests.

Solid Sitka Spruce Top on the CSF1M

The CSF1M is the solid-top model in the CSF range, pairing a solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides. A solid top is the key to a responsive, resonant acoustic sound.

Short 600 mm Scale

With a 600 mm (23 5/8") scale, the frets sit a little closer together than on a standard 634 mm Yamaha acoustic. That makes chord shapes easier to reach and the guitar more relaxed to play. The 43 mm nut keeps the string spread familiar rather than cramped.

Passive Under-Saddle Pickup

The CSF1M has a passive SRT piezo pickup under the saddle with an individual sensor for each string, using the same sensor as Yamaha's L-Series acoustic-electrics. Because it is passive, it needs no batteries and there is no control panel cut into the body. Simply connect the line output to an amp, PA or audio interface.

Built for Travel

Its compact size makes the CSF1M easy to take on the road, to lessons or on holiday. Yamaha supplies a durable gig bag for transport, so it is ready to carry from day one.

Nato Neck and Rosewood Fingerboard

The neck is nato with a rosewood fingerboard and a 400 mm radius, and the string spacing at the bridge is 11 mm. A rosewood bridge, urea nut and saddle, and die-cast chrome tuners complete the playing hardware.

CSF1M Finishes and Details

YMS offers the CSF1M in Tobacco Brown Sunburst and Vintage Natural, both in a gloss finish. Black and white body binding, an abalone and black soundhole inlay and black ABS bridge pins with white dots add a classic touch. It ships with Elixir NANOWEB 80/20 Bronze Light strings.

No. The CSF1M has a solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides, and Yamaha describes it as the solid-top model in the CSF series. The all-solid version in the range is the CSF3M.
