Yamaha CPX600 Electro-Acoustic Guitar
The Yamaha CPX600 takes the stage-ready playability and plugged-in sound of Yamaha's APX guitars and puts them in a larger grand auditorium cutaway body. The result is a more traditional-looking guitar with a louder, fuller acoustic voice, backed by the SYSTEM65 preamp, a built-in tuner and a piezo pickup with an individual element for each string.
It is a good fit for players who want one guitar that sounds full at home or in a jam and plugs straight into an amp or PA for gigs, worship or open mics. The full 634 mm scale, narrower string spacing and deep cutaway keep it comfortable for both strumming and lead playing.
Key Features

Grand Auditorium Cutaway Body
The CPX600 uses a medium-jumbo grand auditorium cutaway body that is 400 mm wide, 511 mm long and 95-115 mm deep. That extra size gives a louder acoustic sound with strong low end, smooth highs and open mids. The cutaway still leaves the upper frets within easy reach.

Non-Scalloped X Bracing on the CPX600
Yamaha braces the CPX600's spruce top with a newly designed non-scalloped X-type pattern for a tighter tone. It keeps the acoustic sound strong and rich while staying clear and well defined when amplified on stage.

Round Soundhole for a Focused Sound
The CPX600 has a conventional round soundhole, which Yamaha voices to focus the midrange while keeping the bass under control. The result is a direct, powerful sound that projects well. It is framed by an ABS and abalone soundhole inlay.

SYSTEM65 Preamp with Built-In Tuner
The SYSTEM65 panel offers volume, a 3-band EQ and an AMF control that shifts the centre of the mid band between 80 Hz and 10 kHz. This lets you target a boomy or feedback-prone frequency precisely instead of cutting the whole midrange. A chromatic tuner and a battery-check indicator sit on the same panel.
Per-String Piezo Pickup
The CPX600's under-saddle piezo uses individual elements for each string. Yamaha designed it to deliver a clear, wide-bandwidth signal with better dynamic response and tonal accuracy than a regular piezo. It gives a stage-focused tone that sits well in a band mix.
Comfortable Neck and 634 mm Scale
A full 634 mm (25") scale is paired with a 43 mm nut and a rosewood fingerboard with a 400 mm radius. String spacing at the bridge is a narrow 10.0 mm, which Yamaha uses to make stretching for chords easier.
Easy Power and Output
The preamp runs on two AA alkaline batteries, rated by Yamaha at about 180 hours with the tuner off. Plugging a cable into the output jack, which doubles as the end pin, switches the preamp on automatically.
CPX600 Finishes and Appointments
YMS offers the CPX600 in Black, Old Violin Sunburst, Root Beer and Vintage Tint, each with a gloss body. The neck is matte, except on the Black version, which has a gloss neck. Ivory and black binding, a transparent pickguard, die-cast chrome TM29T tuners and a rosewood bridge finish the guitar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose the CPX600 or the APX600?
Both have the same SYSTEM65 preamp, 634 mm scale, 43 mm nut, 10.0 mm string spacing and spruce top. The CPX600's grand auditorium body (400 mm wide, 95-115 mm deep) gives a louder, fuller acoustic sound and a more traditional look, while the APX600's thinline body (384 mm wide, 80-90 mm deep) is slimmer and feels closer to an electric. Pick the CPX600 if you play unplugged as much as you play on stage.
Does the CPX600 have a solid top?
Yamaha's specifications list the top as spruce rather than solid spruce. The back, sides and neck are listed as locally sourced tonewood, with species chosen according to availability.
What batteries does the CPX600 use?
The SYSTEM65 preamp takes two AA alkaline batteries, which Yamaha rates at around 180 hours of use with the tuner off. The preamp switches on when a cable is plugged in, so unplug it after playing to save the batteries.
Does the CPX600 come with a case?
No. Yamaha supplies the CPX600 with a hex wrench for neck adjustment but no case or gig bag, so we suggest adding a gig bag for transport.
Who is the CPX600 best suited to?
It suits beginners and intermediate players who want a full-sounding acoustic that can also be plugged in, as well as performers who play in churches, cafes and small venues. The built-in tuner and EQ mean you can play straight into an amp or PA without extra pedals.
