Yamaha FGX800C Solid-Top Electro-Acoustic Guitar
The Yamaha FGX800C is the acoustic-electric model in Yamaha's FG/FS800 Series. Yamaha derived it from the FG800, keeping the solid spruce top, Nato/Okume back and sides and newly developed scalloped bracing, then adding a cutaway body and an onboard electronics system.
Yamaha describes the FGX800C as the first choice for anyone getting into acoustic-electric playing. Its under-saddle piezo pickup and SYSTEM66 analogue preamp let you plug into an amplifier or PA, while the built-in tuner and EQ keep everything you need on the guitar itself. It works well as an everyday acoustic that is ready for gigs, worship sessions, open mics and recording.
Key Features
Solid Spruce Top Derived from the FG800
Yamaha built the FGX800C on the FG800, so it shares the same solid spruce top and Nato/Okume back and sides. A solid top responds closely to your picking and strumming, giving a lively, balanced acoustic tone. That gives the pickup a good natural sound to work with when you plug in.

Newly Developed Scalloped Bracing
Yamaha's R&D Division used acoustic analysis and simulation to design a new scalloped bracing pattern for the FG range, instead of relying on tradition or guesswork. Yamaha says it delivers a louder, stronger low and mid range than conventional bracing. The top board stays durable at the same time.
SYSTEM66 Preamp with Under-Saddle Piezo Pickup
The FGX800C uses Yamaha's proprietary under-saddle SRT piezo pickup with the SYSTEM66 analogue preamp, which Yamaha says gives solid plugged-in performance. The signal leaves through a LINE OUT jack. Connect it to an acoustic amplifier, PA system or mixer when you need to be heard.
3-Band EQ, Sweepable Mid and Built-In Tuner
The SYSTEM66 panel has a volume control and LOW, MID and HIGH EQ knobs to boost or cut each range. An AMF knob moves the centre frequency of the MID control anywhere from 80 Hz to 10 kHz, so you can target exactly the part of the sound you want to change. A TUNER switch turns on the built-in chromatic tuner, and a BATT. light warns you when the batteries are running low.
Dreadnought Cutaway-Style Body
Yamaha describes the FGX800C body as dreadnought cutaway style, measuring 505 mm long, 412 mm wide and 100–118 mm deep. The full-size body gives generous volume and depth for strumming and accompanying vocals. The cutaway lets your fretting hand reach the higher frets more easily for lead lines and chord voicings up the neck.
Comfortable FGX800C Neck and Dependable Hardware
The nato neck has a matt finish, a 43 mm (1 11/16") nut and a 400 mm (15 3/4") fingerboard radius, with a 650 mm (25 9/16") scale and 11.0 mm string spacing. Yamaha lists a walnut fingerboard and bridge, a urea nut and saddle, black ABS bridge pins with white dots and die-cast chrome TM29T tuners. The body has black binding and a black-and-white soundhole inlay.

Natural and Black Finishes for the Yamaha FGX800C Electro-Acoustic Guitar
YMS offers the FGX800C in Natural and Black, both with a gloss body and a matt neck. The Natural version has a tortoise-pattern pickguard, while the Black version uses a black pickguard. Otherwise the two share the same specifications.

Made by Yamaha
Yamaha says every FG is built from carefully cured and dried woods, with hand-sprayed finishes and detailed quality-control checks. The FGX800C is part of that same FG/FS800 Series. It is designed to be a reliable everyday guitar for practice and performance alike.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the FGX800C different from the FG800?
Both have a solid spruce top, Nato/Okume back and sides, scalloped bracing, a 650 mm scale and the same full-size body dimensions. The FGX800C adds a cutaway, Yamaha's under-saddle piezo pickup and the SYSTEM66 preamp with a LINE OUT jack. Yamaha also lists a walnut fingerboard and bridge for the FGX800C, while the FG800 is listed as rosewood or walnut.
Should I choose the FGX800C or the FG820?
The FG820 is purely acoustic and has mahogany back and sides with cream binding, which Yamaha says gives a warmer, stronger sound. The FGX800C keeps the FG800's Nato/Okume body but adds a cutaway and built-in electronics. If you expect to play through an amplifier or PA, the FGX800C is the one to pick.
What powers the SYSTEM66 electronics?
According to Yamaha's SYSTEM66 owner's manual, the preamp runs on two AA (LR6) alkaline batteries held in a slide-out battery holder. Yamaha quotes roughly 180 hours of use with alkaline batteries when the tuner is not in use, though actual life varies. The BATT. indicator lights up when the batteries need replacing.
What comes with the FGX800C?
Yamaha lists a hex wrench as the included accessory, and a case is not listed, so you may want to add a gig bag or case plus an instrument cable. The guitar comes strung with Yamaha FS50BT or D'Addario XT strings.
Who is the FGX800C best suited to?
Yamaha calls the FGX800C the first choice for experiencing acoustic-electric music. It suits players who want a full-size solid-top acoustic for home practice that can also plug in for performances, rehearsals, events or recording, with a tuner built in.
