Yamaha TAS1E TransAcoustic Concert Guitar
The Yamaha TAS1E is a second-generation TransAcoustic guitar with a concert-style body, a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Its party trick is built-in reverb and chorus that come out of the guitar's own body and soundhole, so you hear rich effects while playing completely unplugged.
It is the entry point to Yamaha's TransAcoustic range, keeping things simple with a few controls, a LINE OUT for amps and PA systems, and power from two AA batteries. The smaller concert-style body makes the TAS1E comfortable for long practice sessions and relaxed playing at home, while the effects add atmosphere to everything you play.
Key Features
TransAcoustic Reverb and Chorus from the TAS1E Body
An actuator fitted to the inside of the TAS1E responds to the vibration of the strings and passes it into the body and the air inside. The result is reverb and chorus that you hear coming from the guitar itself, with no amplifier, speaker or pedal involved. Yamaha's second generation adds fuller volume and newly optimised effects over the original TransAcoustic models.
Two Reverb Types and a Chorus
Yamaha lists two reverb types and one chorus type on the TAS1E, set from simple controls on the guitar. Use a touch of reverb to make solo practice sound more spacious, or add chorus for a shimmering, layered strum. With nothing to set up, the effects are ready whenever you pick up the guitar.
Compact Concert-Style Body
The TAS1E uses a concert-style body measuring 497 mm long, 380 mm wide and 90–115 mm deep. The smaller, slimmer shape is comfortable to hold during long practice sessions. If you want a bigger body, the TAG1E offers the same features in a dreadnought style.
Solid Spruce Top with Mahogany Back and Sides
The top is solid spruce, paired with mahogany back, sides and neck. The fingerboard and bridge are walnut, with a urea nut and saddle and black ABS bridge pins. The body has a gloss finish with black binding, a transparent pickguard and a blue ripple-pattern soundhole inlay, while the neck has a matte finish.
Comfortable Neck and 650 mm Scale
The TAS1E uses a 650 mm (25 9/16") scale with a 44 mm (1 3/4") nut and 11.0 mm string spacing. The walnut fingerboard has a 400 mm (15 3/4") radius. Die-cast chrome tuners and factory-fitted Elixir NANOWEB 80/20 Bronze Light strings complete the playing package.
Simple Controls and a LINE OUT Connection
Three controls handle Reverb, Chorus and Line Out volume, keeping the TAS1E as easy to use as a regular acoustic. When you need more volume for a gig, rehearsal or recording, plug into an amp, PA or audio interface through the LINE OUT connection. The electronics are Yamaha's TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 system.

Runs on Two AA Batteries
Yamaha lists battery operation from two AA batteries for the TAS1E, so there is no charger to carry. As Yamaha's product photos show, the battery holder slides out at the output jack, so changing batteries is quick.

Hard Bag Included by Yamaha
Yamaha includes a hard bag with the TAS1E, along with a hex wrench. YMS offers it in Natural, Sand Burst and Ultra Marine, all with a gloss body finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the TAS1E and the TAG1E?
They share the same solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, 650 mm scale, effects and controls. The only difference is body shape: the TAS1E is a concert style (380 mm wide, 90–115 mm deep, 497 mm long), while the TAG1E is a larger dreadnought style (412 mm wide, 100–125 mm deep, 505 mm long). Choose the TAS1E for a more compact feel and the TAG1E for a bigger body.
Do I need an amplifier to hear the effects on the TAS1E?
No. The reverb and chorus are produced by the actuator inside the body, so you hear them when you play the TAS1E unplugged. When you need more volume, connect the LINE OUT to an amp, PA or audio interface and set the level with the Line Out volume control.
How is the TAS1E powered?
Yamaha lists battery operation using two AA batteries. The built-in rechargeable battery featured on some other TransAcoustic models is not part of the TAS1E.
Does the TAS1E have Bluetooth, delay or a looper?
No. In Yamaha's TransAcoustic comparison chart, the TAG1E and TAS1E offer two reverb types and one chorus type. Bluetooth audio, delay, the looper and app editing are features of higher TransAcoustic grades.
What comes with the TAS1E?
Yamaha lists a hard bag and a hex wrench as included. The guitar is fitted with Elixir NANOWEB 80/20 Bronze Light strings from the factory.
Who is the TAS1E best suited to?
Yamaha designed the TAS1E as an approachable way to enjoy and discover the TransAcoustic experience at home. Its concert-style body suits players who prefer a smaller, comfortable guitar and those who practise for long stretches, and the LINE OUT means it can also be used at gigs and for recording.
