Yamaha FSX80C Electro-Acoustic Guitar

The Yamaha FSX80C is a concert-size, cutaway electro-acoustic guitar built at Yamaha Music India's factory in Chennai. It pairs a spruce top and rosewood fingerboard with Yamaha's SYSTEM68 electronics and A.R.T. pickup, so the same guitar works for quiet practice at home and for plugging into an amp, mixer or PA.

Yamaha positions the FSX80C as an electro-acoustic for beginners, and its smaller concert body suits younger players and anyone who finds a dreadnought bulky. It is equally handy for students who play at school events, worship, open mics or jam sessions and want a guitar that is stage-ready without extra gear.

Key Features

Concert cutaway body on the FSX80C

The concert body measures 380 mm across and 96 to 116 mm deep, noticeably more compact than Yamaha's traditional western body. It sits comfortably on the lap, and the cutaway clears the way to the higher frets for lead lines and chord shapes further up the neck.

Full 634 mm scale with a familiar neck

Despite the smaller body, the FSX80C keeps a full 634 mm (25 inch) scale and a 43 mm nut, so chord shapes and string tension feel the same as on a full-size steel-string guitar. The R400 mm fingerboard radius and matt neck finish help the hand move smoothly along the neck.

Spruce top and rosewood fingerboard

A spruce top gives the guitar a clear, articulate voice that works for strumming and fingerpicking alike. The fingerboard and bridge are rosewood, and the top has a gloss finish while the back, sides and neck are finished in matt.

A.R.T. pickup for a natural plugged-in sound

Yamaha's Acoustic Resonance Transducer (A.R.T.) pickup is designed to recreate the natural tone and dynamics of the guitar when amplified. On the FSX80C it is a one-way system, giving a simple, honest acoustic signal to an amplifier, mixer or PA.

SYSTEM68 controls with built-in tuner

The side-mounted SYSTEM68 panel has volume and tone knobs plus a tuner button with an LED display. You can tune up and set your level right on the guitar, without carrying a clip-on tuner or a separate preamp.

Line output for amps, mixers and PA

A line output lets you connect the FSX80C to an acoustic amplifier, a mixing desk or a PA system with a standard instrument cable. That makes it straightforward to move from bedroom practice to a school function or a small stage.

Handcrafted in India by Yamaha

The FSX80C is made at Yamaha Music India's factory in Chennai and is part of Yamaha's Made in India acoustic range, alongside the FS80C, F280 and FX280. It is built to Yamaha's quality standards for durability and stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the FSX80C different from the FS80C?

Both share the same concert cutaway body and are made in India. The FS80C is a purely acoustic guitar, while the FSX80C adds SYSTEM68 electronics with an A.R.T. pickup, volume and tone controls, a built-in tuner and a line output, so it can be plugged into an amp or PA.

How does the FSX80C compare with the FSX315C?

Both are concert cutaway electro-acoustics with a spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, a 634 mm scale and SYSTEM68 electronics with an A.R.T. one-way pickup. The FSX80C has a gloss top with matt back and sides and a black pickguard, while the FSX315C has a full gloss body finish and a tortoise-pattern pickguard.

What comes in the box?

Yamaha lists a hex wrench and two AA batteries as the included accessories. Yamaha does not include a case or gig bag with this model.

Do I need an amplifier to play it?

No. It is a full acoustic guitar and sounds natural unplugged. The electronics are only needed when you want to connect it to an acoustic amp, mixer or PA through the line output.

Is the FSX80C good for beginners?

Yes. Yamaha describes it as an electro-acoustic for beginners, and the compact concert body with a cutaway is comfortable for younger and smaller players, while the full 634 mm scale means skills carry over to any full-size guitar.
