Yamaha DTX402K Electronic Drum Kit with Silent Kick Unit
The Yamaha DTX402K is the entry-level kit of the three in the Yamaha DTX402 Series. It pairs the DTX402 module, with 10 editable kits and 10 built-in training functions, with 7.5-inch snare and tom pads, three 10-inch cymbal pads, an HH40 hi-hat controller and the KU100 kick unit, which replaces a kick pad and pedal.
It suits beginners, children and families who want to start drumming at home with as little noise as possible. At 13.9 kg it is the lightest of the three DTX402-series kits, and its folding rack adjusts low enough for young players.
Key Features
KU100 Silent Kick Unit
Instead of a kick pad and separate bass drum pedal, the DTX402K uses Yamaha's KU100 kick unit, which is designed to reduce the noise produced when you play the bass drum. That makes it a considerate choice for homes and apartments where noise matters.
HH40 Hi-hat Controller
The HH40 hi-hat controller gives open and closed hi-hat sounds when you strike the hi-hat pad, plus foot-close and foot-splash sounds from the pedal alone. Foot-close volume is fixed rather than following pedal pressure, but you can set its level in the module's menu.
Choke-able Crash and Ride Bell
The 10-inch crash pad lets you choke the cymbal by grabbing its edge after a hit, just as on an acoustic kit. The 10-inch ride pad produces a bell sound when you hit it strongly, adding variety to grooves.

DTX402 Module with 10 Editable Kits
The DTX402K is driven by the DTX402 drum module, which holds 287 drum and percussion voices plus 128 keyboard voices. Its 10 preset kits cover Pops, Rock, Metal, Funk, Hip-hop, EDM, Jazz and Latin, and every kit can be edited and saved over, so you can build your own sound.

10 Training Functions with Scoring
Built-in training modes such as Rhythm Gate, Dynamic Gate, Measure Break, Change Up and Fast Blast work on timing, dynamics and speed. The module talks to you to encourage you as you practise, a scoring function rates your playing objectively, and the Recorder lets you play back what you have recorded.

DTX402 Touch and Rec'n'Share Apps
The free DTX402 Touch app for iOS and Android lets you choose and customise kits, set up the metronome, adjust trigger settings and run the training modes, with a Challenge mode that turns practice into a game. Rec'n'Share lets you play along with your favourite music and record audio and video to share.

USB Audio and MIDI, AUX IN and Headphones
The USB TO HOST port sends audio and MIDI to a smart device or computer, so you can make videos with your camera app or record into a DAW. There is also a mini-jack AUX IN for an external audio source and a standard stereo PHONES/OUTPUT jack for headphones or an amplifier.

Quiet, Durable Pads and Foldable Rack
The pads and rack have passed Yamaha's durability tests, and the snare and tom pads use Yamaha's floating system for a quiet yet comfortable response. The steel rack is compact and folds away, and the height and angle of the pads can be adjusted for players of all sizes, including small children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the DTX402K, DTX432K and DTX452K?
All three use the same DTX402 module, voices, kits and training functions, with 7.5-inch tom pads and 10-inch hi-hat, crash and ride pads. The DTX402K has the KU100 kick unit and HH40 hi-hat controller. The DTX432K adds a KP65 kick pad with a Yamaha FP6110A bass drum pedal and an HH65 hi-hat controller. The DTX452K has the same as the DTX432K plus a TP70S 3-zone snare pad.
Does the DTX402K come with a bass drum pedal?
No pedal is needed. The KU100 kick unit takes the place of a kick pad and pedal and is designed to reduce bass drum noise. If you want to learn with a real bass drum pedal, the DTX432K and DTX452K include the KP65 kick pad and Yamaha FP6110A pedal.
How does the HH40 hi-hat controller differ from the HH65?
Both give open, closed, foot-close and foot-splash hi-hat sounds. On the DTX402K's HH40 the foot-close volume is fixed whatever the pedal pressure (adjustable in the menu), while the HH65 on the DTX432K and DTX452K lets you recreate the sound of a closing hi-hat with the pedal.
Is the DTX402K suitable for children?
Yes. Yamaha designed the DTX402 Series so the height of each component can be adjusted for anyone, including small children, and the DTX402K weighs 13.9 kg with an average footprint of 800 × 1000 mm.
Can I connect it to my phone or computer?
Yes. Connect the USB TO HOST port with a USB cable to send audio and MIDI to a computer or smart device. An iPhone or iPad also needs a Lightning USB adapter, and an Android device needs an OTG cable, to use the free DTX402 Touch and Rec'n'Share apps.
What comes in the box?
Along with the rack, pads, KU100 kick unit, HH40 hi-hat controller and DTX402 module, Yamaha lists a drum key, a 9-channel snake cable, two cable bands and the owner's manual.
