Wooden Shells, DTX-PRO Module, Your Choice of Heads

A bass drum pedal is not supplied with this kit. Yamaha ships the DTX8 series with the KP90 kick pad but no pedal — budget for one, or bring the pedal you already play. We will match a suitable Yamaha pedal to it when you order.

The DTX8 series is where DTX kits get real wooden shells. The XP125SD snare and three XP105T toms are proper drums with wood shells, and behind them sits the DTX-PRO module — 40 preset kits, 200 user kits and 712 voices, with three KIT MODIFIER knobs that reshape a whole kit without opening a menu.

Yamaha builds this kit two ways, and both are on this page. Pick TCS heads for the DTX8K-X or REMO two-ply mesh for the DTX8K-M, in Real Wood or Black Forest. Everything else — module, cymbals, kick, rack and price — is identical across all four.

What You Get

  • XP125SD 12-inch snare, two-zone, on a wooden shell — head and rim read separately for rim shots and cross-stick work. TCS or mesh, whichever you select above.
  • Three XP105T 10-inch toms, also on wooden shells. Two rack toms and a floor tom, all the same size and feel.
  • KP90 7.5-inch kick pad with a multi-layer cushion, ready for a single or double pedal.
  • RHH135 13-inch two-zone hi-hat mounted on a Yamaha HS650A stand — an acoustic-grade stand, so the foot technique is the real thing.
  • Two PCY135 13-inch crashes and a PCY155 15-inch ride, all three-zone with edge, bow and cup, and all chokeable.
  • DTX-PRO module — 40 preset kits, 200 user kits, 712 voices, 10 training functions and 37 preset songs, expandable to 14 pads.
  • RS8 rack system, in Real Wood or Black Forest.

TCS or Mesh? Choose Above

TCS — the DTX8K-X

Yamaha's textured cellular silicone is the quietest surface in the range, with a soft, slightly damped rebound closer to a coated acoustic head played at low volume. If you practise in a flat, share walls, or prefer a less bouncy stick, take TCS.

Mesh — the DTX8K-M

REMO two-ply mesh gives a livelier, springier rebound that most drummers find closest to a tightly tuned acoustic head. Slightly noisier in the room than TCS, and the surface most players coming from other electronic kits will recognise.

Neither is better, and neither costs more

The two kits are otherwise identical — same module, same cymbals, same rack, same price. The whole decision is how the stick feels to you, which is why we keep both set up in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Ten minutes settles it faster than any description.

Real Wood or Black Forest?

Finish changes nothing about the sound. Real Wood shows the grain of the shells and suits a warmer, more traditional-looking setup. Black Forest is the darker, more understated option and hides marks better on a working stage kit. Both are selected above at the same price.

What Is Not in the Box

  • A bass drum pedal. The KP90 kick pad is supplied; the pedal is not.
  • A drum throne.
  • Sticks.
  • Headphones, or a drum monitor if more than one person needs to hear the kit.

Tell us your budget and we will put the complete setup together sensibly rather than overselling any one accessory.

FAQ

Q. What is the difference between the DTX8K-X and the DTX8K-M?

The head surface on the snare and toms, and nothing else. DTX8K-X uses Yamaha TCS; DTX8K-M uses REMO two-ply mesh. Module, cymbals, kick pad, hi-hat stand, rack, finishes and price are identical. Both are on this page — select Head Type above.

Q. Does the head type or finish change the price?

No. All four configurations cost the same.

Q. Which should I choose if I practise in a flat?

TCS. It is measurably quieter in the room than mesh, and that difference matters more than any tonal preference when you share walls.

Q. What does the DTX8 add over the DTX6K5-M?

Real wooden shells, larger XP-series pads with a 12-inch snare, an RHH135 hi-hat on a full HS650A stand, three-zone cymbals up to a 15-inch ride, and the RS8 rack. The module is the same DTX-PRO in both.

Q. And what does the DTX10 add over this?

The DTX-PROX module with 70 preset kits and eight individual outputs, a bigger 12-inch floor tom, the KP128 12-inch kick tower, a 17-inch ride and the heavier RS10-HXR rack. Note that on the DTX10, snare hit-point detection is available on the TCS version only — on this DTX8 the head choice is purely feel and noise.

Q. Can I use a double pedal?

Yes. The KP90 kick pad accepts a double pedal. No pedal of any kind is supplied.

Q. Can I add more pads later?

Yes. The DTX-PRO module supports up to 14 pads using Y-cables, so extra toms, cymbals or auxiliary pads can be added as the setup grows.
