Yamaha DTX8 Electronic Drum Kit (DTX8K-X / DTX8K-M)

The Yamaha DTX8 brings birch-shell pads and the DTX-PRO module together in a full five-piece electronic kit. It has a 12-inch snare, three 10-inch toms, a KP90 kick pad, a 13-inch hi-hat on an HS650A stand, two crashes and a 15-inch ride on the RS8 rack. Choose the DTX8K-X with TCS heads or the DTX8K-M with REMO mesh heads, in Real Wood or Black Forest.

It suits serious drummers who want an electronic kit that looks and plays like an acoustic set, for home practice, teaching or recording. The DTX-PRO shares its sound engine with the flagship DTX-PROX and adds training functions, USB audio and MIDI and support for up to 14 pads.

Birch Shells with Acoustic Drum Finishes

The DTX8 is the step in the DTX range where pads get real wooden shells. The birch shells are made and painted in Yamaha's acoustic drum factories, and the badges, lugs and hoops are standard acoustic drum parts, so the kit looks the part in Real Wood or Black Forest.

Choose TCS (DTX8K-X) or REMO Mesh (DTX8K-M)

The DTX8K-X uses Yamaha TCS (Textured Cellular Silicone) heads, with realistic firmness and rebound, a surface that stops sticks sliding, and heads that never loosen. Yamaha also lists hit-point detection on the DTX8K-X snare.

The DTX8K-M uses REMO two-ply mesh heads, valued for low noise, durability and a lively rebound, and they can be tuned to your preference. Its mesh snare uses three sensors to respond to delicate stick work.

DTX-PRO Module with the Flagship Sound Engine

The DTX8's DTX-PRO module uses the same sound engine as the flagship DTX-PROX. It holds 712 voices, 40 preset kits and room for 200 user kits, with acoustic drum sounds recorded in world-renowned studios together with their room ambience. Three KIT MODIFIER knobs, AMBIENCE, COMP and EFFECT, reshape the whole kit at once.

Three-Zone Cymbals with Ride Hit-Point Detection

Two PCY135 13-inch crashes and a PCY155 15-inch ride each give separate edge, bow and cup sounds, and all can be choked or muted by grabbing the edge. The ride has hit-point detection on both DTX8 configurations, so its sound changes as you move across the pad.

KP90 Kick Pad Ready for Double Pedals

The 7.5-inch KP90 kick pad uses Yamaha's multi-layer cushion for a comfortable feel at any stroke strength. It suits double bass drum pedals and has a wide stance, large anti-slip spurs and a carpet-grabbing mechanism to stay put. The pedal itself is sold separately.

RS8 Rack with Yamaha Acoustic Hardware

The RS8 rack uses Yamaha acoustic drum hardware for its tom clamps and cymbal holders, with easy ball clamps on the toms and boom-retractable cymbal tilters. The left side leaves room for the hi-hat stand and a double pedal, and L-shaped legs add stability. An HS650A hi-hat stand and SS662 snare stand are included.

What is the difference between the DTX8K-X and DTX8K-M?

The heads on the snare and toms: Yamaha TCS on the DTX8K-X and REMO two-ply mesh on the DTX8K-M. Yamaha lists snare hit-point detection for the DTX8K-X; both have hit-point detection on the ride. The module, cymbals, kick pad, stands and rack are the same, and the DTX8K-X weighs 45.88 kg against 41.55 kg for the DTX8K-M.

Does the DTX8 come with a bass drum pedal?

No. The KP90 kick pad is included, but Yamaha sells the foot pedal separately. The KP90 works with single or double pedals.

What does the DTX8 add over the DTX6K5-M?

Both use the DTX-PRO module with the same pad and cymbal sizes, the KP90 kick and an HS650A hi-hat stand. The DTX8 adds birch-shell pads in Real Wood or Black Forest, a choice of TCS or mesh heads, snare hit-point detection on the DTX8K-X, the RS8 rack and a separate SS662 snare stand.

What does the DTX10 add over the DTX8?

The DTX10 uses the DTX-PROX module with 70 preset kits, eight individual outputs, LED rotary faders, MIDI IN and Bluetooth audio. It also has a 12-inch floor tom, the 12-inch KP128 kick pad, a 15-inch crash and 17-inch ride, the HS740A hi-hat stand and the RS10-HXR rack.

What comes in the box?

Can I connect it to a computer and add more pads?

Yes. USB sends and receives audio and MIDI with a computer or smart device, MIDI OUT drives other MIDI gear and a Cubase AI download code is included. The kit works with Rec'n'Share and DTX Touch (DTX Touch needs a USB cable and adapter), and the DTX-PRO accepts up to 14 pads or triggers with Y-cables.
