Yamaha DTX10 Electronic Drum Kit (DTX10K-X / DTX10K-M)

The Yamaha DTX10 is the flagship of the DTX electronic drum range. It pairs the DTX-PROX module with birch-shell pads made in Yamaha's acoustic drum factories, a 12-inch KP128 kick pad, a 17-inch ride and the RS10-HXR rack. It comes as the DTX10K-X with TCS heads or the DTX10K-M with REMO mesh heads, each in Real Wood or Black Forest.

It is built for working drummers who play live, record or stream. Eight individual outputs, Live Set recall, USB audio and MIDI and direct recording to a USB drive cover the stage and studio, and 10 training functions with 37 songs support daily practice at home.

Birch Shells Built in Yamaha Drum Factories

The DTX10 snare and tom pads sit in real birch shells that Yamaha makes and paints in its acoustic drum factories, using the same finishes as its acoustic kits. Badges, lugs and hoops are standard acoustic drum parts too, so the kit looks like a real drum set on stage or in the studio. Choose Real Wood or Black Forest.

TCS or REMO Mesh: DTX10K-X and DTX10K-M

The DTX10 comes in two configurations. The DTX10K-X uses Yamaha TCS (Textured Cellular Silicone) heads, which give a firm, natural rebound, a coated-head feel that stops sticks sliding, and a surface that never loosens. The DTX10K-M uses REMO two-ply mesh heads that can be tuned to your taste.

On the DTX10K-X, Yamaha lists hit-point detection on both the snare and the ride. On the DTX10K-M it lists hit-point detection on the 17-inch ride, while the mesh snare uses three sensors to follow delicate stick work.

Three-Zone Cymbals with a 17-inch Ride

The PCY135 13-inch and PCY155 15-inch crashes and the PCY175 17-inch ride each give separate edge, bow and cup sounds, and all can be choked or muted by grabbing the edge. The ride adds hit-point detection, and the DTX-PROX plays long, high-definition cymbal samples for detailed cymbal work.

KP128 12-inch Kick Pad

The KP128 kick pad has a 12-inch REMO two-ply head over a three-layer cushion, so light and heavy strokes feel equally comfortable. Its whole bass drum structure is built to be stable and durable. A bass drum pedal is sold separately.

DTX-PROX Module with KIT MODIFIER and LED Faders

The DTX-PROX holds 733 voices and 70 preset kits, with space for 200 of your own. Its acoustic drum sounds were recorded in some of the world's best studios, along with each studio's natural room ambience. Three KIT MODIFIER knobs (AMBIENCE, COMP and EFFECT) reshape the whole kit at once, and seven LED rotary faders adjust instrument parameters through six presets with 14 sub-presets. The faders can also control external devices and DAW software.

Eight Individual Outputs for Stage and Studio

Besides the main L/MONO and R outputs, the DTX-PROX has eight individual outputs on four stereo jacks, with a routing matrix that sends any instrument to any output. Two AUX IN jacks take a PA monitor feed or a phone, there are standard and mini headphone jacks, and MIDI IN/OUT plus USB carry audio and MIDI to a computer or smart device. The Live Set function recalls saved combinations of kits, tempos and backing tracks with one touch, and you can record WAV audio straight to a USB flash drive.

RS10-HXR Rack Based on HEX RACK II

The DTX10 rack, the RS10-HXR, is based on Yamaha's HEX RACK II system for acoustic drums. It is strong enough for heavy use and adjusts easily for a flexible setup. An HS740A hi-hat stand and an SS662 snare stand are also supplied.

What is the difference between the DTX10K-X and DTX10K-M?

The snare and tom heads. The DTX10K-X uses Yamaha TCS heads and the DTX10K-M uses REMO two-ply mesh. Yamaha lists snare hit-point detection for the DTX10K-X; both versions have hit-point detection on the 17-inch ride. The module, cymbals, kick pad, hi-hat stand and rack are the same, and the DTX10K-X weighs 46.77 kg against 42.1 kg for the DTX10K-M.

Does the DTX10 come with a bass drum pedal?

No. The KP128 kick pad is included, but Yamaha sells the foot pedal separately, so you will need to add one or use your own.

How does the DTX10 compare with the DTX8?

Both use birch-shell XP pads with a choice of TCS or mesh heads. The DTX10 adds the DTX-PROX module with 70 preset kits, eight individual outputs, LED rotary faders, MIDI IN, Bluetooth audio and Live Set. It also has a 12-inch floor tom, the 12-inch KP128 kick pad, a 15-inch crash and 17-inch ride, the HS740A hi-hat stand and the RS10-HXR rack.

What comes in the box?

Can I connect the DTX10 to a computer or phone?

Yes. USB sends and receives audio and MIDI with a computer or smart device, and a Cubase AI download code is included. The kit works with Yamaha's Rec'n'Share and DTX Touch apps; DTX Touch needs a USB cable and adapter to connect your phone or tablet. Bluetooth audio is also built in, though Yamaha notes its availability varies by country.

Can I add more pads later?

Yes. The DTX-PROX has ten trigger input jacks and accepts up to 14 pads when you use Y-cables.
