Yamaha TRBX505 5-String Electric Bass Guitar
The Yamaha TRBX505 is the five-string version of the TRBX 500 Series, pairing a sculpted solid mahogany body and 5-piece maple and mahogany neck with two YGD-designed H5 Alnico V humbuckers. Its preamp offers a 3-band active EQ or a passive mode, with output level matched between the two.
It is aimed at bassists who need the extended range of a low B for worship, gospel, session, metal or modern pop work and want serious tone control on stage. The 43 mm nut, 18 mm string spacing and flat 600 mm radius keep five strings manageable for both fingerstyle and slap.
Key Features
Active/Passive Preamp with Level-Matched Output
The TRBX505 uses an audiophile-grade circuit that can be switched between active and passive modes. Yamaha matches the output level of both modes, so switching does not cause a jump or drop in volume. In passive mode the treble control becomes a master passive tone.
YGD H5 Alnico V Humbuckers for Five Strings
Two YGD-designed H5 double-coil pickups use a quad-polepiece design and Alnico V magnets. They are voiced for a clean, open tone, with the power to drive the active circuit and the sensitivity to capture nuance in passive mode. A pickup balancer blends neck and bridge.
3-Band EQ with Middle Control
Bass, Middle and Treble boost/cut controls sit alongside Master Volume and the pickup balancer. The Middle control is useful on a five-string, where shaping the mids helps the low end stay clear in a dense mix. Gold-plated contacts at key points in the signal chain add reliability.
Battery Alert LED
A back-panel LED gives an instant low-battery indication. It helps you avoid a sudden loss of power during a performance, and the passive mode remains available as a fallback.
5-String Neck Built for Playability
The TRBX505 has a 43 mm nut and 18 mm string spacing, which Yamaha highlights for technical slap and fingerstyle playing. The 5-piece maple and mahogany neck carries a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with a flat 23-5/8" (600 mm) radius. A precision-fitted bolt-on joint balances strength, vibration transfer and upper-fret access.
Sculpted Solid Mahogany Body
The solid mahogany body has a mass-optimised 3D sculpted design for a balance of tone, comfort and weight distribution. It is finished in satin polyurethane, as is the neck.
High-Mass Die-Cast Bridge and Straight String Pull
A high-mass die-cast bridge transfers string vibration efficiently into the body and offers wide adjustability. At the headstock, a straight string pull from nut to tuner reduces lateral tension for better tuning stability. The output jack is mounted on a durable metal plate.

How is the TRBX505 different from the TRBX305?
The TRBX305 has ceramic double-coil pickups with a 2-band active EQ and a 5-position Performance EQ preset switch. The TRBX505 adds YGD H5 Alnico V pickups, a 3-band EQ with Middle control, an active/passive switch with level-matched output and a battery alert LED, in a satin rather than gloss finish.
How does it compare with the TRBX605FM?
Both share Alnico V double-coil pickups, the 3-band active/passive preamp, a battery alert LED, a 5-piece neck, a 43 mm nut and 18 mm string spacing. The TRBX605FM uses an alder body with a flamed maple top instead of solid mahogany.
What is the difference between the TRBX505 and the TRBX504?
The TRBX505 adds a low B string, so its nut widens to 43 mm, string spacing narrows to 18 mm and the fingerboard radius flattens to 600 mm. The TRBX504 is the 4-string version with a 38 mm nut, 19 mm spacing and a 250 mm radius.
Can I still play if the battery dies?
Yes. Switch to passive mode and the bass keeps working without the preamp. The battery alert LED also warns you when power is low.
What strings does it ship with, and is a case included?
Yamaha lists D'Addario EXL170-5 strings (0.045-0.130). A case or gig bag is not included, so we recommend adding one.
