Yamaha BB435 5-String Electric Bass Guitar
The Yamaha BB435 is the five-string version of the BB434 in Yamaha's BB400 Series. It combines an alder body, a 6-bolt miter neck joint, a 5-piece maple and mahogany neck, YGD Custom V5 Alnico V pickups and the convertible Vintage Plus Light bridge on a 34" scale.
Yamaha designed the BB400 Series for players ready to step up to auditions, the stage and the studio. The BB435 brings the build quality and signature sound of the BB line to a five-string, adding the extra low range of a fifth string.
Key Features
6-Bolt Miter Neck Joint
The BB435 uses Yamaha's 6-bolt miter neck joint, which holds the neck closer and tighter to the body so the two parts act almost as one. Compared with a conventional bolt-on joint, Yamaha says this transfers string vibration through the body more efficiently. The result is strong sustain and resonance on every note.
5-Piece Maple and Mahogany Neck
The neck is a 5-piece maple and mahogany laminate in a bolt-on design, giving a sharp attack and quick response. Yamaha notes that this construction resists warping and twisting, while blending the tight character of maple with the warmth of mahogany. It has a satin polyurethane finish, a rosewood fingerboard and 21 medium frets.
YGD Custom V5 Alnico V Pickups
A VSP5n split single-coil neck pickup and a VSC5b single-coil bridge pickup use Alnico V magnets. Yamaha tunes these Custom V5 pickups for the classic BB vintage tone, updated to sound a little brighter so they cut through in live situations. Being standard-sized, they also make future customisation easier.
Simple Two-Volume, One-Tone Controls
The BB435 has a volume control for each pickup plus a master tone. Blend the neck and bridge pickups to shape your sound, then use the tone control to warm it up or keep it bright. It is a quick, intuitive layout for the stage and studio.
Vintage Plus Light Convertible Bridge
The Vintage Plus Light bridge lets you string the BB435 through the bridge or through the body. Through-body strings pass at a 45-degree angle, which Yamaha says puts less stress on the strings than vertical stringing while transferring vibration to the body efficiently. On 5-string models the bridge has an offset low B string, and the BB435 uses a steel saddle.
Alder Body and Comfortable Five-String Neck
The alder body uses the latest BB design, refined with subtle contour changes and reduced weight for comfort. The neck has a 43.0 mm nut, a Graphtech nut, a flatter 600 mm (23 5/8") radius and 18 mm string spacing on a 34" (863.6 mm) scale. Yamaha also made the latest BB necks slightly thinner, at 20.5 mm at the 1st fret and 22.5 mm at the 12th.
Lightweight Tuners and Three Finishes for the BB435 Bass
Lightweight open-gear tuners improve balance and suit the smaller, lighter body of the latest BB. YMS offers the BB435 in Teal Blue, Black and Tobacco Brown Sunburst, all with a gloss polyurethane finish. Teal Blue and Black have a 3-ply cream pickguard, and Tobacco Brown Sunburst a 3-ply black pickguard.
