Yamaha MG16XU 16-Channel Analog Mixer with Effects and USB
The Yamaha MG16XU is a 16-channel analog mixing console that combines ten D-PRE mic inputs, four groups and four AUX sends with Yamaha's SPX effects and a 24-bit/192 kHz USB audio interface. It mixes the show, adds polished effects and records the stereo mix to a computer.
It suits bands, churches, schools, auditoriums and event engineers who want one desk for live sound, recording and live streaming. A rack-mount kit and Cubase AI download access are included.
Key Features

Ten D-PRE Mic Inputs on the MG16XU
Channels 1-8 have balanced combo jacks, and channels 9/10 and 11/12 add XLR mic inputs beside their line jacks, giving up to ten microphones. All mic inputs use Yamaha's discrete Class-A D-PRE preamps with an inverted Darlington circuit, with +48V phantom power for condenser mics.
24-bit/192 kHz USB Audio Interface and Cubase AI
The USB 2.0 port sends the stereo bus to a computer and returns playback to channels 15/16 via the LINE/USB switch, at up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Download access to Steinberg's Cubase AI is included for recording and editing, and Yamaha states it works with iPad (2 or later) through Apple's camera adapter.
SPX Effects with 24 Programmes
The built-in SPX processor offers 24 programmes, from halls, rooms and plate reverbs to delays, vocal echo, chorus, flanger and pitch change. The PARAMETER knob fine-tunes each programme, AUX 4 doubles as the effects send, and an optional FC5 foot switch turns the effect on and off.
Four Groups and Four AUX Sends
Four group buses with GROUP OUT jacks let you sub-mix drums, vocals or instruments, or feed separate zones and recorders. Four AUX sends cover monitor mixes and external processing, and AUX 1 and AUX 2 have PRE switches for pre- or post-fader sends.
Sweepable Mid EQ and 1-Knob Compressors
The mono channels get a three-band EQ whose mid band sweeps from 250 Hz to 5 kHz, giving you more precise tone shaping than the fixed-mid MG12 range. Add Yamaha's 1-knob compressors, 26 dB pads and 80 Hz high-pass filters for clean, controlled sources.

Rack Ears, Internal Power and Metal Chassis
The MG16XU comes with a rack-mount kit, so it can sit on a table or in a 19-inch rack. Its internal universal 100-240 V supply avoids an external adaptor, and the powder-coated metal chassis is built for regular gigging.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do the MG16, MG16X and MG16XU differ?
All three share the same 16-channel layout, preamps, four groups, four AUX sends, sweepable mid EQ and rack kit. The MG16X adds 24 SPX effects, and the MG16XU adds those effects plus a 24-bit/192 kHz USB audio interface.
Can the MG16XU record each channel separately?
No. The USB interface is 2-in/2-out and records the stereo mix. For multitrack USB recording, look at the MGX16 digital mixer.
Which channel does computer playback come back on?
Channels 15/16. Set their LINE/USB switch to USB to hear audio from the computer in the mix.
What comes in the box?
Yamaha lists the Owner's Manual, Technical Specifications, AC power cord, Cubase AI Download Information and rack-mount kit. The FC5 foot switch is optional.
MG16XU or MG20XU?
Both have four groups, four AUX sends, effects and USB. The MG20XU handles up to sixteen mics against the MG16XU's ten, in the same 444 mm wide chassis.
