Yamaha PSR-SX920 Arranger Workstation with Super Articulation2 Voices

The Yamaha PSR-SX920 is the top model in the PSR-SX arranger workstation range and, according to Yamaha, part of the Genos family. It pairs a 61-key FSB organ-style keyboard and 7-inch touchscreen with 1,587 Voices, 575 Styles and twice the Style Insertion DSP power of its predecessor.

It is built for singer-keyboardists, wedding and event performers, worship musicians and home producers who want a full backing band, realistic solo instruments and vocal processing in one instrument. Recording, Playlist management and expansion memory make it just as useful in a home studio as on stage.

Key Features

Voice and Style selection screen on the Yamaha PSR-SX920 arranger workstation

PSR-SX920 Voice and Style library

The PSR-SX920 offers 1,587 Voices, 63 Drum/SFX Kits and 480 XG Voices, alongside 575 preset Styles that include 520 Pro, 49 Session and 6 Free Play Styles. Every Style has four One Touch Settings that call up matching Voices instantly, and Yamaha has doubled the Style Insertion DSP power compared with the previous model for a more polished backing sound.

Super Articulation Voices on the Yamaha PSR-SX920

Super Articulation2 and Super Articulation+

The PSR-SX920 is the first PSR-SX model with Super Articulation2, and its 12 S.Art2 Voices add natural details such as glissandos as you play. Its 15 S.Art+ Voices let you switch between playing techniques, for example bowed and plucked strings, with a button instead of changing Voices. Together with 340 Super Articulation Voices, this makes solo lines sound far more convincing.

Style Dynamics Control on the Yamaha PSR-SX920 arranger workstation

Style Dynamics Control

Assign Style Dynamics Control to a Live Control knob or a pedal and shape the intensity of any Style, including your own User Styles, from soft pianissimo to full fortissimo. The whole accompaniment responds together, so you can build and release energy through a song the way a live band does.

7-inch touchscreen of the Yamaha PSR-SX920

7-inch touchscreen and assignable controls

A centrally placed 7-inch colour touchscreen (800 x 480) is easy to read whether you sit or stand. An assignable joystick, two Live Control knobs, eight assignable panel buttons and six Home-screen shortcuts keep your most-used functions one touch away, and colour-enhanced panel buttons improve visibility on stage.

Chord Looper buttons on the Yamaha PSR-SX920

Chord Looper and Crossfade Portamento

Chord Looper records a chord progression and loops it, freeing your left hand for full piano parts or helping you practise and compose. Each bank stores up to eight sequences, you can create unlimited banks, and presets are included. Crossfade Portamento adds smooth glides between notes for expressive lead lines.

Vocal Harmony, Synth Vocoder and mic/guitar input

The Microphone/Guitar input has a noise gate, compressor and 3-band EQ, plus 23 Vocal Effects. The PSR-SX920 also adds 54 Vocal Harmony and 20 Synth Vocoder presets with up to 60 user settings, so singers can add backing harmonies straight from the keyboard.

Recording, Playlist and Multi Pads

Record 16-track MIDI Songs or capture audio as WAV or MP3 for up to 80 minutes per Song, with Time Stretch, Pitch Shift and Vocal Cancel for audio playback. Playlist holds up to 2,500 records per file with sorting and search, and 500 Multi Pad banks add ready-made phrases and audio.

Voice and Style Expansion Packs for the Yamaha PSR-SX920

Expandable Yamaha PSR-SX920 arranger workstation

About 2 GB of Expansion Voice memory and 4 GB of internal memory let you add Voice and Style Expansion Packs, including Expansion Audio Styles. The EXPANSION EXPLORER app for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac helps you find, preview and install new content.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PSR-SX920 and the PSR-SX720+?

Both have a 61-key FSB keyboard, 7-inch touchscreen, Chord Looper and Style Dynamics Control. The PSR-SX920 adds more content (1,587 Voices and 575 Styles versus 1,377 and 450), 12 Super Articulation2 Voices, 13 insertion effect blocks instead of 9, Vocal Harmony and Synth Vocoder presets, 2 GB of Expansion Voice memory (1 GB on the SX720+) and Sub outputs. It also has a (15 W + 10 W) x 2 amplifier with dome speakers, where the PSR-SX720+ uses 15 W x 2.

How does the PSR-SX920 compare with the PSR-SX620?

The PSR-SX620 is the entry model of the range, with 1,002 Voices, 450 Styles, a 4.3-inch non-touch display and 15 W x 2 amplification. The PSR-SX920 adds the FSB keyboard, 7-inch touchscreen, eight assignable buttons, Style Dynamics Control, MIDI IN/OUT, a far larger Voice library and 2 GB of expansion memory.

What is included in the box?

The PSR-SX920 comes with the Owner's Manual, a music rest and the AC adaptor. A keyboard stand such as the Yamaha L-7B, pedals and headphones are optional extras.

Can I connect a microphone or guitar?

Yes. The Microphone/Guitar input includes a noise gate, compressor and 3-band EQ, plus 23 Vocal Effects. Singers can also use the 54 Vocal Harmony and 20 Synth Vocoder presets.

Can I connect it to a PA system or computer?

Yes. It has Main outputs (L/L+R, R), Sub (Aux) outputs 1 and 2, MIDI IN/OUT, USB TO HOST and two USB TO DEVICE ports for flash drives. A USB display adapter from Yamaha's compatibility list can also send the screen to an external display.

Who is the PSR-SX920 best suited to?

It suits professional solo performers, singer-keyboardists, event and worship musicians, and home producers who want the most complete feature set in the PSR-SX range. Players who need fewer Voices and a smaller screen may find the PSR-SX720+ or PSR-SX620 a better fit.
