Yamaha URX22C USB-C Audio/MIDI Interface

The Yamaha URX22C is a compact 2-in/2-out audio and MIDI interface that connects to your computer over USB Type-C and records at up to 32-bit/192 kHz. Two combo inputs feed Yamaha D-PRE mic preamps, while an internal DSP runs effects and a low-latency monitor mix that you manage from the dspMixFx app. It sits in a sturdy metal housing and comes with Cubase AI, Basic FX Suite and Steinberg Plus.

It is aimed at solo musicians, singer-songwriters, podcasters and streamers who need one or two inputs and want effects, loopback and MIDI without extra hardware. Home producers who also use a MIDI keyboard or sound module will appreciate having MIDI IN and OUT on the same box.

Key Features

Yamaha URX22C audio interface with the dspMixFx mixing software

URX22C DSP Mixing with dspMixFx

The URX22C has its own DSP, so balancing inputs and playback, adding effects and setting levels is handled inside the interface rather than by your computer. The dspMixFx app gives a clear on-screen view of the mix, so you can get a polished sound without deep technical knowledge.

32-bit/192 kHz Audio with D-PRE Mic Preamps

Recording runs at up to 32-bit integer and 192 kHz through Yamaha's D-PRE mic preamps, with a 54 dB gain range and +48V phantom power for condenser microphones. The result is a clean, detailed capture of vocals, instruments and spoken word.

Yamaha URX22C top panel controls including MIX knob and MONO button

Hands-On Monitoring Controls

Separate knobs for headphone and main volume let you set speaker and headphone levels independently. The MIX knob blends your live input with computer playback for tight takes, and a dedicated MONO button lets you check that your mix holds up on any playback system.

Onboard Effects for Voice and Guitar

The DSP offers Gate, Compressor, Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip, Guitar Amp Classics amp simulation, Pitch Fix voice changer, Ducker, Multi-Band Compressor, Compander, Delay and REV-X reverb. Because monitoring with these effects happens inside the URX22C, you hear yourself without latency while you perform.

Three-Channel Loopback for Streaming

The mixer includes two mono inputs, three stereo loopback channels and an FX return, with a dedicated streaming mix bus alongside the main mix. This lets you combine microphones, game or music audio and call audio into one feed for a live stream or online meeting.

Hi-Z Guitar Input and MIDI IN/OUT on the URX22C

Input 2 has a Hi-Z switch so you can plug an electric guitar straight in, and the URX22C adds dedicated MIDI IN and OUT ports for a keyboard, synth or sound module. Two TRS main outputs connect to studio monitors and a TRS headphone output handles private listening.

Steinberg Software Bundle and Stream Deck Support

Cubase AI gives you a streamlined DAW for multitrack recording and editing, Basic FX Suite adds plug-in effects and Steinberg Plus provides extra sounds and instruments. Cubasis LE is available for iPhone and iPad, MixKey simplifies audio routing, and the interface works with Elgato Stream Deck for one-touch control.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many microphones can I record at the same time on the URX22C?

Two. Both inputs are mic/line combo jacks with +48V phantom power, so you can record two microphones, or one microphone and an electric guitar using the Hi-Z switch on input 2.

How is the URX22C different from the URX44C?

The URX44C is the larger URX-C model: it has four combo inputs plus two TRS line inputs, four TRS outputs, two headphone outputs, 6-track recording and 4-track playback, and runs from its supplied AC adaptor or USB bus power. The URX22C keeps two inputs, two outputs and one headphone output in a smaller box, while sharing the same DSP effects, 32-bit/192 kHz resolution and MIDI IN/OUT.

How does it compare with the UR12MK3?

The UR12MK3 is a simpler 24-bit/192 kHz interface with one mic/line combo input and one TRS input. The URX22C adds a second mic preamp, 32-bit recording, onboard DSP effects, multi-channel loopback, MIDI IN/OUT and the Basic FX Suite licence.

What's in the box?

Yamaha lists a Setup Guide, licence cards for Cubase AI, Basic FX Suite and Steinberg Plus, and a 1.0 m USB cable (USB 3.1 Gen1, Type-C to Type-A). Microphones, headphones and monitor speakers are sold separately.

How is the URX22C powered?

It can run on USB Type-C bus power from a USB 3.0 port. Yamaha notes that when connected to a USB 2.0 port, an optional separate power supply is required via its DC IN connector. Rated consumption is 4.5 W (DC 5 V, 0.9 A).

Who is the URX22C best suited to?

It suits solo creators and duos: singer-songwriters, home producers with a MIDI keyboard, podcasters and streamers who want built-in effects and loopback in a desk-friendly unit.
