Yamaha YC73 73-Key Stage Keyboard with Balanced Hammer Action and VCM Organ
The Yamaha YC73 is a 73-key stage keyboard that combines a weighted BHS (Balanced Hammer Standard) action with Yamaha's VCM Organ engine, nine physical drawbars and a Keys section of acoustic pianos, electric pianos and synth sounds. VCM Organ, AWM2 and FM tone generation provide 200 Voices, with a built-in USB audio and MIDI interface for Mac, PC and iOS.
Its action models the feel of an electric piano, so the YC73 suits keyboard players who switch between keys and organ through a set and want weighted keys in a more portable size than an 88-key instrument.
Key Features
VCM Organ with nine physical drawbars
The YC73's VCM Organ engine models a classic tonewheel organ in three vintages, from just out of the box to well-travelled and character-rich. Nine drawbars with real footages and ratcheting shape the tone by hand, and you can fine-tune key click, leakage and rotary speed. See-through drawbar stops with customisable LED colours make upper and lower settings easy to read in split mode.
73-key BHS balanced hammer action
The YC73 has a weighted, balanced BHS (Balanced Hammer Standard) action with matte black keytops that models the feel of an electric piano. Its E-to-E range and a touch between graded acoustic piano and organ action make it comfortable for moving between piano, electric piano and organ parts.
Grand pianos, electric pianos and real FM keys
The Keys section of the YC73 includes Yamaha CFX, S700 and C7 grand piano Voices, with the Nashville C3, Live CF3 and CFX2 added through firmware updates. Tine and reed electric pianos, real eight-operator FM electric pianos, and pads, strings, synth basses, leads and brass round out 200 Voices: 10 organ and 190 keys.
FM Organ for transistor-style tones
Switch the drawbars to control eight FM operators for a pure organ sound with a strong low end. Dedicated FM Organ modes recreate classic transistor organ tones, from warm to reedy to buzzy, giving you a second organ character alongside the tonewheel sound.
Organ and two Keys sections, with Live Sets
Splits, layers and sound shaping are handled directly from the YC73's front panel, with an Organ section plus Key A and Key B. Complete setups can be saved as Live Set Sounds – 320 locations, 152 of them preset – so changing between songs on stage is quick.
Rotary speaker, amp and VCM effects
Three rotary speaker and four amp types add vintage character, including a Studio rotary profile with a wider stereo field added in a firmware update. Key A and Key B each get two insertion effects, the organ has Pre Drive, and a reverb and three-band master EQ with sweepable mid finish the sound. Yamaha's VCM technology models vintage analogue EQs, compressors and phasers at circuit level.
Built to travel with you
Yamaha designed the YC Series to be compact and light enough for players to move themselves, and the YC73 weighs 13.4 kg. The optional SC-YC73 soft case has zippered compartments for pedals and accessories.
Stage-ready connections on the YC73
The YC73 adds balanced XLR outputs to its unbalanced line outputs, alongside an AUX input, headphones, MIDI In/Out and two foot controller and two foot switch jacks. The built-in USB audio and MIDI interface records audio and MIDI to a DAW on Mac, PC or iOS over a single cable, and an FC3A foot pedal is included.
