88 Keys. Polyphonic Aftertouch. Yamaha's Ultimate Flagship Synth.

The Yamaha MONTAGE M8X is the most expressive instrument in the MONTAGE M family. Its 88-note GEX graded hammer keyboard combines a piano-informed response with polyphonic aftertouch, allowing pressure on individual held notes to control vibrato, timbre, dynamics and other assigned parameters independently.

AWM2, FM-X and AN-X synthesis, up to 400-note combined polyphony, extensive hands-on control, studio-grade audio and deep computer integration make MONTAGE M8X an exceptional flagship for pianists, composers, synthesists and producers who demand maximum playing expression.

Key Features

🎹

88-note GEX graded hammer keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch

The GEX action provides a substantial, piano-oriented response while retaining the control needed for advanced synthesis. Polyphonic aftertouch senses pressure independently for each held note, enabling chords in which individual notes can swell, brighten or gain vibrato without affecting the others.

🔊

AWM2, FM-X and AN-X with up to 400-note combined polyphony

AWM2 uses up to 128 Elements per Part for highly detailed acoustic and electronic instruments. FM-X provides eight-operator FM synthesis with 88 algorithms, while AN-X brings three oscillators plus noise, sophisticated modulation and expressive virtual-analogue character. Across the engines, MONTAGE M offers 256-note AWM2, 128-note FM-X and 16-note AN-X polyphony.

💾

A flagship sound library with room for your own creations

Explore 3,369 factory Performances and approximately 10 GB of preset waveform memory, then expand the instrument with up to 3.7 GB of user waveform memory and compatible libraries. Seamless Sound Switching helps transitions remain natural during live performance.

〰️

Motion Control makes complex synthesis performable

The Super Knob, Motion Sequencer and Envelope Follower can shape dozens of parameters together. Morph layered sounds, animate effects, create tempo-synchronised movement or move between contrasting textures with a single gesture.

🎛️

Flagship hands-on control and a streamlined workflow

A 7-inch colour touchscreen, dedicated navigation display, eight sliders, eight knobs, the Super Knob and assignable controls keep sound selection, mixing, editing and performance functions close at hand. The workflow is designed for fast decisions on stage and deep programming in the studio.

🔌

A professional stage instrument and multichannel studio interface

Balanced main and assignable outputs, stereo A/D inputs, MIDI, foot-controller connections and USB integration make MONTAGE M the centre of a serious rig. At 44.1 kHz, its USB audio interface supports six input channels and 32 output channels; operation up to 192 kHz is available with eight output channels.

FAQ

Q. Who is the MONTAGE M8X best suited to?

It is built for professional pianists, composers, film and media producers, synthesists and touring performers who want an 88-note graded hammer action together with the sound-design possibilities of polyphonic aftertouch.

Q. How is MONTAGE M8X different from the original MONTAGE?

MONTAGE M is Yamaha's newer flagship generation. It adds the AN-X virtual-analogue engine, greatly expanded AWM2 architecture, increased waveform memory, a redesigned control surface and a more integrated computer workflow while retaining FM-X and Motion Control.

Q. What keyboard action and aftertouch does it provide?

MONTAGE M8X uses Yamaha's 88-note GEX graded hammer keyboard with initial touch and polyphonic aftertouch. Unlike channel aftertouch, it can respond independently to pressure on each held note. MONTAGE M6 and M7 use faster FSX actions with channel aftertouch.

Q. Does it have built-in speakers?

No. MONTAGE M8X connects to headphones, powered monitors, a keyboard amplifier, mixer or PA system through its dedicated audio outputs.

Q. Can it record and integrate with a DAW?

Yes. MONTAGE M includes internal MIDI performance and pattern recording, direct audio recording to USB storage, MIDI connectivity and a multichannel USB audio interface. The Expanded Softsynth Plugin can further integrate compatible MONTAGE M sounds and data with computer-based production.

Q. Can I load my own samples and libraries?

Yes. MONTAGE M provides approximately 3.7 GB of user waveform memory and 16 Library locations for custom content and compatible sound libraries.

Q. What is included in the box?

Yamaha lists an AC power cord, Quick Guide, Cubase AI download information, Expanded Softsynth Plugin download information and related documentation. Contents may vary by region.
