Product details

Weighted Piano Feel. Three Synthesis Engines. One Powerful Creative Hub.

The Yamaha MODX M8 brings expressive 88-key performance and the sound architecture of Yamaha’s M-series flagship instruments into a streamlined stage-and-studio synthesizer. Its GHS weighted keyboard gives pianists a familiar graded response, while the AWM2, FM-X and AN-X engines cover detailed acoustic instruments, modern FM textures and warm virtual-analogue synthesis.

Designed for performers, producers, worship musicians and sound designers, MODX M8 combines deep synthesis with fast hands-on control. A 7-inch colour touchscreen, dedicated controls, Motion Control, extensive effects, sequencing tools and multichannel USB audio make it equally capable as a live performance instrument, production centrepiece and studio controller.

Key Features

🎹

88-note GHS weighted keyboard for expressive piano performance

The Graded Hammer Standard action is weighted more heavily in the lower register and more lightly in the upper register, giving piano players a natural dynamic response. Initial touch is supported for expressive control; the keyboard does not provide aftertouch.

🔊

AWM2, FM-X and AN-X: three complementary sound engines

AWM2 delivers highly detailed sample-based pianos, electric pianos, orchestral instruments, guitars, drums and more. FM-X offers eight-operator FM synthesis with 88 algorithms for dynamic digital tones, while AN-X adds three oscillators plus noise for expressive virtual-analogue leads, pads, basses and motion-rich textures.

〰️

Motion Control transforms complex sound changes into performance gestures

The Super Knob, Motion Sequencer and Envelope Follower can control multiple parameters at once. Morph layered sounds, animate effects, create rhythmic movement or move smoothly between intimate and powerful textures without interrupting your performance.

🎛️

Performance-ready controls with deep hands-on access

Eight control sliders, four knobs, the Super Knob, six display knobs, pitch and modulation wheels, assignable switches and dedicated performance controls keep essential parameters within reach. Live Sets and Scenes help organise sounds and recall performance states quickly on stage.

🖥️

7-inch colour touchscreen and an immense ready-to-play library

The wide VGA touchscreen makes sound selection, editing, mixing and routing easier to navigate. Under OS v3.0 the instrument provides 3,487 Performances, 11.29 GB of preset waveform memory, 1.9 GB of user waveform memory and thousands of arpeggio patterns.

🔌

Built for stage, studio and computer-based production

Connect microphones or line sources through the stereo A/D inputs, integrate MIDI gear, use two foot controllers and two foot switches, or connect directly to a computer by USB. At 44.1 kHz, the integrated USB audio interface supports four input channels and ten output channels, simplifying multichannel recording and playback.

FAQ

Q. Is the MODX M8 suitable for pianists?

Yes. Its 88-note GHS weighted keyboard is the MODX M model intended for players who prioritise piano-style touch while still needing a deep performance synthesizer.

Q. How is MODX M8 different from the older MODX8 or MODX8+?

MODX M8 belongs to the newer MODX M generation. In addition to AWM2 and FM-X, it adds the AN-X virtual-analogue engine and an updated performance workflow. Content or specifications for MODX8/MODX8+ should not be assumed to apply to MODX M8.

Q. Does the MODX M8 support aftertouch?

No. The GHS keyboard supports initial touch (velocity sensitivity), but not aftertouch. Expression can still be controlled with pedals, wheels, assignable controls, Motion Control and the Super Knob.

Q. Does it have built-in speakers?

No. MODX M8 is designed to connect to headphones, powered studio monitors, a keyboard amplifier, mixer or PA system through its dedicated audio outputs.

Q. Can it record audio and MIDI to a computer?

Yes. Its USB connection carries MIDI and multichannel audio. At 44.1 kHz it supports four input and ten output channels; at 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz it can operate with two-channel input and output.

Q. Can I load my own samples?

Yes. MODX M provides 1.9 GB of user waveform memory, allowing custom waveforms and compatible libraries to be incorporated into Performances.

Q. What is included in the box?

Yamaha lists the PA-300C AC adaptor, Quick Guide, Cubase AI download information, Expanded Softsynth Plugin for MONTAGE M/MODX M download information, manual-download information and a welcome card.
