Yamaha MODX M7 76-Key Synthesizer for Stage and Studio
The Yamaha MODX M7 is a 76-key music synthesizer built on the same three-engine architecture as Yamaha's flagship MONTAGE M. AWM2, FM-X and AN-X synthesis, Motion Control and 3,487 preset Performances sit behind a 7-inch colour touchscreen.
It is aimed at working keyboardists, worship players and producers who need more range than 61 keys but want to avoid the bulk of an 88-key board. At 7.6 kg it travels easily, and its USB audio interface makes it a capable studio hub too.

Yamaha MODX M7: 76 semi-weighted keys for splits and layers
The MODX M7 gives you a 76-note semi-weighted FSB keyboard with initial touch, adding over an octave of range to a 61-key board. That extra room makes split bass and lead parts, two-handed pads and wider piano voicings far more comfortable, at 1,089 mm wide.
Three engines: AWM2, FM-X and AN-X
The MODX M7 pairs AWM2 sample-based synthesis, with up to 128 Elements per Part for detailed pianos and strings, with 8-operator FM-X and the analogue-modelling AN-X engine. Polyphony totals 268 notes: 128 for AWM2, 128 for FM-X and 12 for AN-X, so dense layers and splits stay clear.
AN-X engine for vintage analogue character
AN-X gives you two filters with 10 filter types, pulse width modulation, oscillator self sync, ring modulation, FM, a wave shaper and a wave folder. Voltage drift and ageing settings imitate the slight instability of classic synths, adding warmth and movement to leads, basses and pads.
Motion Control, Super Knob and high-resolution controls
Motion Sequences animate synth and effect parameters in time with the tempo, the Super Knob sweeps many settings with a single turn, and the Envelope Follower lets audio from the A/D input or another Part shape a sound. The knobs, Super Knob, pitch bend and modulation wheels are high resolution for smoother changes.
Light enough to carry at 7.6 kg
Despite its 76 keys, the MODX M7 weighs just 7.6 kg, so one person can carry it to rehearsals and services. Dedicated Part and Scene buttons for 8 Parts per Performance, 8 sliders and 4 knobs keep live changes at your fingertips.
Touchscreen editing and stereo A/D input
A 7-inch colour touchscreen with six display knobs speeds up browsing and editing. The stereo A/D input, with two insertion effects of its own, lets you route an external instrument or audio source into a Performance and process it alongside the internal sounds.
MODX M7 as a USB MIDI 2.0 audio interface and DAW controller
A single USB cable handles MIDI 2.0 data and multichannel audio, with 10 outputs and 4 inputs at 44.1 kHz. The dedicated DAW Remote button turns the panel into a controller for Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools and Live, and Cubase AI download information is included to get you recording.
Expanded Softsynth Plugin for your DAW
Registered MODX M owners get the Expanded Softsynth Plugin free of charge. It recreates the instrument inside your DAW, so you can build, edit and mix Performances for your MODX M7 even when the hardware is not with you.

How does the MODX M7 compare with the MONTAGE M7?
Both have 76 keys and the same three engines and Performance library. The MONTAGE M7 adds an FSX keyboard with channel aftertouch, higher polyphony (256 AWM2 and 16 AN-X notes) and 3.7 GiB of user wave memory, but weighs 17.6 kg. The MODX M7 uses a semi-weighted FSB keyboard without aftertouch and weighs only 7.6 kg.
MODX M6, M7 or M8: which size should I pick?
All three share the same sound engines, controls and connections; the difference is the keyboard. The M6 has 61 semi-weighted keys at 6.6 kg, the M7 has 76 semi-weighted keys at 7.6 kg, and the M8 has 88 GHS weighted keys at 13.6 kg. The M7 is the middle ground if you play splits and layers but do not need a full piano range.
Is the MODX M7 keyboard weighted, and does it have aftertouch?
The MODX M7 uses a semi-weighted FSB keyboard with initial touch (velocity response); it has no aftertouch. Players who want a graded-hammer piano feel should consider the MODX M8.
Can I record into a computer with the MODX M7?
Yes. One USB cable carries MIDI 2.0 data and audio, with 4 inputs and 10 outputs at 44.1 kHz or 2 in/2 out at 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz. The DAW Remote button controls Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools and Live, and Cubase AI download information is included.
