61-Key Freedom. Three Synthesis Engines. Built to Move.

The Yamaha MODX M6 places the sound architecture of Yamaha’s M-series flagship instruments in a compact, highly portable 61-key synthesizer. Its responsive semi-weighted FSB keyboard is ideal for fast synth passages, organ parts, layered performances and production work, while AWM2, FM-X and AN-X cover detailed acoustic instruments, expressive FM textures and warm virtual-analogue synthesis.

At just 6.6 kg, MODX M6 is made for performers and producers who need serious sound without a heavy rig. A 7-inch colour touchscreen, Motion Control, hands-on performance controls, sequencing tools, extensive effects and multichannel USB audio make it a powerful stage instrument, studio centrepiece and mobile creative workstation.

Key Features

🎹

61-note semi-weighted FSB keyboard for fast, expressive playing

The compact 61-key FSB action responds quickly to synth leads, organ techniques, rhythmic comping and layered sounds. Initial touch provides velocity-sensitive expression; the keyboard does not provide aftertouch.

🔊

AWM2, FM-X and AN-X: three complementary sound engines

AWM2 delivers highly detailed sample-based pianos, electric pianos, orchestral instruments, guitars, drums and more. FM-X offers eight-operator FM synthesis with 88 algorithms for dynamic digital tones, while AN-X adds three oscillators plus noise for expressive virtual-analogue leads, pads and basses.

🪶

A genuinely portable performance powerhouse

Measuring 882 mm wide and weighing only 6.6 kg, MODX M6 is easy to carry between rehearsals, gigs, studios, classrooms and worship venues. Its compact size also suits production desks and multi-keyboard stage rigs.

〰️

Motion Control turns complex sound changes into performance gestures

The Super Knob, Motion Sequencer and Envelope Follower can control multiple parameters at once. Morph layered sounds, animate effects, create rhythmic movement or move between contrasting textures without interrupting your performance.

🎛️

7-inch touchscreen with performance-ready hands-on control

The wide VGA colour touchscreen simplifies sound selection, editing, mixing and routing. Eight sliders, four knobs, the Super Knob, six display knobs, pitch and modulation wheels, assignable switches and Live Sets keep important controls accessible on stage.

🔌

Built for stage, studio and computer-based production

Connect microphones or line sources through the stereo A/D inputs, integrate MIDI equipment, add foot controllers and switches, or connect directly to a computer by USB. At 44.1 kHz, the integrated USB audio interface supports four input channels and ten output channels for flexible recording and playback.

FAQ

Q. Who is the MODX M6 best suited to?

It is an excellent choice for gigging keyboardists, synth players, producers, worship musicians and studios that want the complete MODX M sound system in the lightest and most compact model.

Q. How is MODX M6 different from the older MODX6 or MODX6+?

MODX M6 belongs to the newer MODX M generation. In addition to AWM2 and FM-X, it adds the AN-X virtual-analogue engine and an updated performance workflow. Specifications for MODX6/MODX6+ should not be assumed to apply to MODX M6.

Q. Is the keyboard weighted, and does it support aftertouch?

MODX M6 uses a semi-weighted FSB keyboard designed for quick synth and organ performance. It supports initial touch (velocity sensitivity), but not aftertouch. Players who prefer an 88-key hammer action should consider MODX M8.

Q. Does it have built-in speakers?

No. MODX M6 connects to headphones, powered studio monitors, a keyboard amplifier, mixer or PA system through its dedicated audio outputs.

Q. Can it record audio and MIDI to a computer?

Yes. Its USB connection carries MIDI and multichannel audio. At 44.1 kHz it supports four input and ten output channels; at 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz it can operate with two-channel input and output.

Q. Can I load my own samples?

Yes. MODX M provides 1.9 GB of user waveform memory, allowing custom waveforms and compatible libraries to be incorporated into Performances.

Q. What is included in the box?

Yamaha lists the PA-300C AC adaptor, Quick Guide, Cubase AI download information, Expanded Softsynth Plugin for MONTAGE M/MODX M download information, manual-download information and a welcome card.
