Yamaha describes the SSS1455 as the pure, high-tone option and the SSS1465 as the powerful, punchy option. The 5.5-inch shell feels quick and articulate; the 6.5-inch shell adds depth and weight to the backbeat.

The thin steel shell gives Stage Custom Steel its crisp, direct response. Yamaha forms the centre bead outward to reinforce the shell while retaining the lively metallic character players expect from a steel snare.

Paired with lighter triple-flange hoops, it produces an open voice and dependable rim-shot attack without the mass of a die-cast hoop.

Simple, Proven Strainer Hardware

Both have the same 14-inch diameter and the same shell, hoops, heads, wire and hardware specification. The SSS1455 is 5.5 inches deep for a purer, higher voice; the SSS1465 is 6.5 inches deep for more power and punch.

Q. What heads are supplied?

Yamaha fits a Remo UT Ambassador Coated batter head and a Remo UC Ambassador Snare resonant head at the factory.

Q. Are the hoops die-cast?
