Yamaha Stage Custom Steel Snare Drum (SSS1455 / SSS1465)
Stage Custom Steel is Yamaha's versatile steel snare drum, offered in two 14-inch sizes: the 5.5-inch-deep SSS1455 and the 6.5-inch-deep SSS1465. Both share a 1.0 mm steel shell with an outward centre bead, 1.5 mm steel triple-flange hoops, one-piece lugs and Remo Ambassador heads.

1.0 mm Steel Shell with Outward Centre Bead
Both sizes use a 1.0 mm steel shell with a centre bead formed outwards. The steel shell is what gives the Stage Custom Steel snare its bright, metallic character.
1.5 mm Triple-Flange Hoops and One-piece Lugs
Each drum has 1.5 mm steel triple-flange hoops with 10 holes, top and bottom, and one-piece lugs. It is a simple, sturdy hardware layout that is easy to tune and maintain.
B-Type Strainer with DC-Type Butt Side
A B-type strainer on the release side and a DC-type butt side engage and tension the snare wires. It is a straightforward system that is quick to adjust between songs.
20-Strand High-Carbon Steel Snare Wire
Both models come with a 20-strand, high-carbon steel snare wire seated on a 1.8 mm snare bed, with 45-degree bearing edges on the shell.
Remo Ambassador Heads Fitted
A Remo UT Ambassador Coated batter head and a Remo UC Ambassador Snare resonant head are fitted as standard on both the SSS1455 and SSS1465, so the drum is ready to tune and play.

What is the difference between the SSS1455 and SSS1465?
Only the depth. Both are 14 inches in diameter with the same 1.0 mm steel shell, hoops, lugs, strainer, heads and snare wire. The SSS1455 is 5.5 inches deep for a pure, high tone, and the SSS1465 is 6.5 inches deep for a more powerful, punchy tone.
How does it compare with the Live Custom Hybrid Oak LHS1455?
The LHS1455 is a 14 × 5.5-inch wood snare with a 7-ply oak/phenolic hybrid shell, 2.3 mm Dyna Hoops, Absolute Lugs, a Q-type strainer and 25-strand wire. The Stage Custom Steel snares use a 1.0 mm steel shell, 1.5 mm triple-flange hoops, one-piece lugs, a B-type strainer and 20-strand wire. The SSS models give a bright steel sound at a more accessible level, while the LHS1455 is a premium wood option.
Which heads are fitted?
Both sizes come with a Remo UT Ambassador Coated batter head and a Remo UC Ambassador Snare resonant head.
Is it a good snare for students and schools?
