Yamaha SLG200S Steel-String SILENT Guitar
The Yamaha SLG200S is a steel-string SILENT Guitar built for practice, travel and performance. Instead of a hollow soundbox it uses a slim mahogany body with a detachable rosewood and maple frame, so it is very quiet acoustically, while the SRT Powered system delivers a natural acoustic guitar sound through headphones or the line output.
It is ideal for players who want to practise late at night or in shared homes without disturbing anyone, for musicians who travel, and for home recording without microphones. With a full 634 mm scale and 43 mm nut, it plays like a regular steel-string acoustic, and its slim body makes switching to an electric guitar feel natural too.

SRT Powered Sound
SRT (Studio Response Technology) Powered is Yamaha's system for recreating the body resonance of an acoustic guitar in a bodiless instrument. It is modelled on a high-end Yamaha acoustic recorded with a carefully chosen microphone in a professional studio, right down to its natural sustain and decay. An SRT Blend control lets you mix this modelled sound with the direct piezo pickup signal.
Quiet Enough for Late-Night Practice
Without a resonating soundbox, Yamaha rates the SLG200S as 80 percent quieter than a conventional acoustic guitar. You can practise late at night or while the family is at home without disturbing anyone. Plug in headphones and you hear the full SRT Powered tone.
SLG200S Onboard Controls and Effects
The control panel offers power, volume, AUX volume, bass, treble and SRT Blend, plus a chromatic tuner. Three built-in effects are available: Reverb 1 for a room sound, Reverb 2 for an auditorium sound and a chorus that sounds like two guitars or a 12-string playing together. An AUX input lets you play along with backing tracks or a music player through your headphones.
Record Without a Microphone
Because the SLG200S reproduces the sound of a miked acoustic guitar, you can record straight from the line output into an interface or mixer. There is no need to set up microphones or worry about room noise, which makes home recording quick and simple.
Detachable Frame for Travel
The top section of the SLG200S frame detaches, making the guitar far more compact than a conventional acoustic. Yamaha supplies a gig bag that it says fits in an aircraft overhead compartment with room to spare. The solid body construction is also durable, so it handles travel and live use well.
Full-Scale Steel-String Playability
The SLG200S has a full 634 mm (25") scale, a 43 mm nut and 11.0 mm string spacing on a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Its slim body gives superb playability and makes it easy to switch to an electric guitar. A dual-action truss rod allows the neck relief to be adjusted in either direction.
Distinctive SILENT Guitar Design
Yamaha developed the SLG shape together with the Yamaha Design Laboratory to bring a modern feel to classic guitar contours. The rosewood and maple frame follows the traditional lines of an acoustic body while giving the instrument a form unlike any conventional guitar.
Battery or Adaptor Power
The SLG200S runs on two AA batteries, with Yamaha quoting about 22 hours of continuous use from alkaline cells. It can also be powered from a Yamaha power adaptor, sold separately, through the DC-IN jack.
