Product details
The Yamaha SLG200S is a steel-string Silent Guitar — a full-scale instrument you can play at near-whisper volume, any hour, without disturbing anyone.
In place of a hollow soundbox it uses a slim mahogany centre block with a removable rosewood-and-maple outer frame, so acoustically it stays very quiet — yet plug in your headphones and Yamaha's SRT Powered system delivers the warm, natural tone of a high-end studio-recorded acoustic. Full 634 mm scale, standard 43 mm nut and a familiar rosewood fingerboard mean it feels like the acoustic you already know. The frame detaches for travel and the whole guitar packs into the included gig bag.
SRT Powered — the sound of a real acoustic, in your headphones
A silent, bodiless guitar has no soundbox to give it acoustic warmth — so Yamaha built the warmth in. The SRT (Studio Response Technology) Powered system is modelled on the tone of a high-end Yamaha acoustic captured with studio microphones, then reproduced through the guitar's own electronics. The result is a rich, natural voice with real body resonance, sustain and decay rather than the thin, direct piezo sound most silent instruments give you.
An SRT Blend control lets you mix the modelled acoustic tone with the raw pickup signal to taste, and built-in effects — two reverbs and a chorus — add space and depth straight into your ears or into a recording, with no mics or pedals to set up.
Key Features
Practise silently, any time
The frame body produces only a fraction of a normal acoustic's volume, so you can play late at night, in an apartment or backstage without headphones — then hear the full sound the moment you plug them in.
Studio-quality acoustic tone
SRT Powered modelling gives you the warm, resonant voice of a fine Yamaha acoustic through your headphones, line out or audio interface — feedback-free even at high stage volumes.
Everything on board
Volume, AUX volume, bass and treble, SRT Blend, reverb/chorus effects and a chromatic tuner are all built in. No amp or pedalboard needed to sit down and play.
Plays like a full-size guitar
Full 634 mm (25") scale, 43 mm nut and a smooth rosewood fingerboard on a mahogany neck — the feel and string spacing of a standard steel-string, not a travel compromise.
Play along and record
An AUX input lets you pipe backing tracks or a music player straight into your headphones, while the line out plugs cleanly into a PA, amp or interface for direct recording.
Detaches and travels
The upper section of the frame lifts off, shrinking the guitar to fit the included gig bag and overhead lockers. Runs on two AA batteries or an optional Yamaha power adaptor.

FAQ
Q. How quiet is it, really?
Acoustically it is far quieter than a normal guitar — roughly the level of an unplugged electric — so it won't carry through walls or wake the house. You still hear yourself acoustically as you play; headphones give you the full, rich tone.
Q. Does it need an amp?
No. Plug headphones into the phones jack and everything — tone, tuner, reverb, chorus — works on its own. For performance or recording, the line out connects to a PA, amp or audio interface.
Q. What powers it?
Two AA batteries, or an optional Yamaha PA-series power adaptor. There is a DC-in jack on the control panel for the adaptor.
Q. What's in the box?
The guitar ships with a set of stereo earphones and an original Yamaha carry/gig bag, so you have everything you need to practise straight away.
Q. Is it a good travel guitar?
Yes — the upper frame detaches and the slim body packs down into the included bag, small enough for aircraft overhead lockers, which is why it's a favourite of touring and travelling players.
Q. Can I record with it directly?
Absolutely. The line out sends the SRT Powered tone straight into an interface or mixer — no microphone, no room noise and no feedback — which makes it a genuinely useful home-recording tool.
