The Yamaha MGX12 is a 18-channel compact digital mixer from the MGX Series, Yamaha's digital successor to its long-running MG analogue consoles. It combines 4 mic/line combo inputs and eight line inputs with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, onboard DSP, Bluetooth audio input, dual USB-C audio ports and a microSD recorder in a 3.9 kg chassis.
It is aimed at people who mix and capture audio at the same time: podcasters and streamers, solo performers and small bands, and small venues or halls that want proper processing and recording without a large desk. Simple mode and assistive tools help newcomers, while scene recall and flexible routing suit experienced operators.

Four MGX Mic Preamps and Eight Line Inputs
The MGX12 has 4 combo XLR/TRS inputs with Yamaha's MGX mic preamps, plus four TRS and four RCA line inputs for keyboards, playback and other stereo sources. Outputs are 2 XLR and 6 TRS, and four headphone jacks let several people monitor at once, which is handy for multi-presenter podcasts.
Clean, Low-Latency Digital Sound
The preamps offer an 86 dB gain range and the console quotes 125 dB dynamic range at the stereo output with distortion below 0.002%. Signal delay from input to stereo out is under 0.4 ms at 96 kHz, so monitoring stays natural for performers.
Dual USB-C Audio for Recording and Streaming
The MAIN USB-C port carries 18 channels each way at up to 32-bit/96 kHz for multitrack recording and playback in a DAW. A separate SUB port carries 2 channels each way at 16-bit/48 kHz, so you can feed a stream or a second device while the main port records.
Standalone microSD Multitrack on the MGX12
Insert a microSD card and the console can record up to 16 tracks at 24-bit and up to 96 kHz, with no laptop involved. The same slot plays back 2 tracks, which is useful for background music or as a safety backup alongside a computer recording.
Touchscreen Plus Hands-On Controls
A 4.3-inch touchscreen sits alongside 11 + 1 non-motorised 60 mm faders and 12 send knobs. Four assignable screen knobs and a TOUCH AND TURN encoder let you pick a parameter on the display and adjust it with a physical control.
Built-in Processing and Effects
Onboard DSP provides gate, compressor and EQ, plus the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip for quick tone shaping. The effects set also includes Guitar Amp Classics amp simulation, Pitch Fix voice changer, Ducker, Multi-Band Compressor, Compander, Delay and REV-X reverb, so many shows need no outboard gear.
Auto Gain, Clip Safe and Scene Recall
Auto Gain sets input levels for you, Clip Safe guards against sudden distortion, and Delay can be used for lip-sync correction. Scenes store complete setups for instant recall, and Simple mode trims the interface for less experienced operators.
Sound Pads, Bluetooth and Software
Eight pads trigger jingles and sound effects and double as user-defined keys across four banks. A Bluetooth 5.0 input brings in music from a phone, and the box includes licences for Cubase AI, WaveLab Cast, Steinberg Plus and the Basic FX Suite.

Can the MGX12 record without a computer?

The MGX12 adds features the DM3 Series lacks, including Bluetooth input, a dual USB-C MAIN/SUB setup, four headphone outputs and multitrack microSD recording (the DM3 records 2 tracks to USB storage).
What comes in the box?
Yamaha lists a Start Guide, Safety Guide, two Steinberg licence cards (Cubase AI plus WaveLab Cast, and Steinberg Plus), a Basic FX Suite licence card and the AC power adapter with power cord. Microphones, cables and the microSD card are not included.
Is HDMI video capture available on the MGX12?
No. HDMI input and pass-through are only on the MGX12V. The MGX12 is the audio-only version, and the optional RK-MGX12 kit lets it be rack-mounted.
