The Mixer That Records Every Channel Separately
The MGX12 is digital, and that changes what a mixer can do. Twelve 60 mm faders and a 4.3-inch touchscreen sit over a processing engine with a gate, compressor and EQ on every channel, plus REV-X reverb, delay, amp simulation and Yamaha's Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip. It runs at up to 96 kHz with under 0.4 ms of latency.
The headline is recording: 18 tracks in and out over USB-C, a second USB port for a 2-track stream feed, and up to 16 tracks straight to a microSD card with no computer at all. Every analog mixer in the Yamaha range sends a stereo mix to your DAW. This one sends the whole session.

Digital or Analog? The Honest Comparison
At around the same money as a large analog MG, the MGX12 makes a completely different trade — and it is worth being clear about it before you buy.
Choose the MGX12 if you record, stream, or repeat setups
Multitrack recording, per-channel gate and compression, effects beyond reverb, Bluetooth playback, and settings you can store and recall instead of resetting the desk every session.
Choose an analog MG if you need lots of microphones
The MGX12 has four mic inputs. An MG16XU has ten and an MG20XU has sixteen, for similar or less money. If you are miking a drum kit plus a band, channel count wins and the analog desk is the right buy.
Need both — more mics and multitrack? That is the MGX16: eight mic inputs, sixteen faders and 22-track recording.

FAQ
Q. Can it really record without a computer?
Yes — up to 16 tracks to a microSD card, with 2-track playback from the same card. That is the feature that sets it apart from every analog mixer we sell.
Q. Only four mic inputs?
Four combo mic/line inputs, plus four TRS and four RCA line inputs. It is aimed at podcast, streaming, small-band and content work rather than miking a full stage. For eight mic inputs take the MGX16; for ten or sixteen, the analog MG16XU or MG20XU.
Q. Does the digital processing add noticeable delay?
No. Under 0.4 ms from input to stereo out at 96 kHz — well below what anyone perceives, including performers on in-ears.
Q. What are the two USB-C ports for?
The main port carries the full 18-track stream to and from a computer at 32-bit. The sub port carries a 2-track feed at 16-bit — typically a stream, a phone, or a second machine capturing the mix while the main port multitracks.
Q. What software comes with it?
Cubase AI and WaveLab Cast licences plus Steinberg Plus, and the Basic FX Suite plugin bundle. Enough to record, edit and master what the desk captures without buying anything else.
