The Yamaha GB1K is an 88-key acoustic baby grand piano and the most compact grand in Yamaha's current acoustic line-up, measuring 146 cm wide, 99 cm high and 151 cm long. It combines a spruce soundboard, a Yamaha-cast iron frame and a horizontal grand action in a polished cabinet.

It suits homes, teaching studios and smaller venues that want the playing experience and presence of a real grand where space is limited. Pianists moving up from an upright gain grand-piano touch and projection, while families get an instrument that also serves as a centrepiece in the room.

Yamaha's Most Compact Acoustic Grand

At 151 cm, the GB1K is the shortest grand in Yamaha's current acoustic range. It brings a true grand layout, with horizontal strings and soundboard, into rooms where a longer instrument such as the 161 cm C1X would not fit.

Spruce Soundboard and Ribs

Both the soundboard and its supporting ribs are made of spruce. The soundboard turns string vibration into audible tone, so its material is central to the piano's warmth and carrying power.

Vacuum-Process Cast Iron Frame

Yamaha casts its own frames using a vacuum process, listed for the GB1K as the V-Pro Vacuum Shield Mold Process. The frame has to withstand a total string tension of more than twenty tons, and Yamaha controls casting temperature, composition and coating to shape the frame's acoustic behaviour.

Two-Piece Bridge and Merkus Pine Back Posts
