A VSP3n split single-coil pickup sits in the neck position and a VSC3b single-coil in the bridge position, both using ceramic magnets. Yamaha voices the Custom V3 pickups for a clean, well-defined sound. They are also standard-sized, so future customisation or replacement is straightforward.
Simple Two-Volume, One-Tone Controls
The BB234 gives you a volume control for each pickup plus a master tone. Blend the two pickups to find your sound, then roll the tone back for a warmer, rounder voice. It is an easy layout to learn on and quick to adjust on stage.
Slimmer Maple Neck with Rosewood Fingerboard
The bolt-on maple neck has a satin polyurethane finish and a rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium frets. Yamaha made the neck slightly thinner than on previous BB basses, at 21.0 mm at the 1st fret and 23.0 mm at the 12th. A 250 mm (10") fingerboard radius and a urea nut complete the neck.
Full 34" Scale Four-String Layout
The BB234 uses a 34" (863.6 mm) long scale with a 40.0 mm nut width and 19 mm string spacing at the bridge. It is a familiar four-string layout that suits learning, practice, rehearsals and live playing. Yamaha specifies a .045–.105 string gauge.
Vintage-Style Bridge and Lightweight Tuners
A vintage-style bridge anchors the strings, while lightweight open-gear tuners keep the headstock light. Yamaha says the lighter tuners improve balance and suit the smaller, lighter body of the latest BB.
Three Finishes for the Yamaha BB234 Bass
