Key Features
121 cm U1: A Proven Professional Upright
The U1 measures 121 cm high, 153 cm wide and 62 cm deep and weighs 228 kg. Yamaha highlights its long history and popularity, and its outstanding expressive performance.
High-Quality Materials and Advanced Construction
Careful design, strict quality control of the wood and parts engineered to resist warping and twisting give the U Series its sound and durability. The result is a smooth, sensitive touch that keeps even delicate nuances intact.
Spruce Soundboard and V-Pro Plate
The U1 has a 2,137 square-inch spruce soundboard and a lowest bass string with a speaking length of 46.8 inches. A V-Pro plate carries the string tension, with a hard maple bridge and pinblock, cut-thread tuning pins and spruce back posts.
Metal Action Rail and Seasoning for Destination
A metal action rail gives the action a stable mounting, and Yamaha seasons each U1 for the climate where it will be played, helping it hold a consistent touch and regulation over time.
Soft-Close Fallboard on the U1
A damping mechanism built into the fallboard lowers the key cover slowly, helping to prevent pinched fingers and protecting the keys.
Five Finishes to Suit Your Room
Choose the U1 in Polished Ebony, Polished White, Polished Mahogany, Satin American Walnut or Satin Ebony. The satin walnut brings out the natural wood grain, while the polished finishes give a classic high-gloss look.
Three Pedals and Durable Key Surfaces
Damper, muffler and soft pedals give full traditional control, with the muffler pedal for quieter practice. The 88 keys have acrylic resin white key surfaces and phenolic resin black key surfaces.
