The Yamaha B30 is the 121 cm, standard-size acoustic upright in Yamaha's new-generation B Series. It combines B Series hammers made using a CFX-derived felt process, a redesigned soundboard supported by five back posts and an action built entirely in-house, all in a polished ebony cabinet.

121 cm Standard-Size B Series Upright
At 121 cm tall, the B30 is the standard-size model in Yamaha's new-generation B Series and the largest of the three, above the 116 cm B20 and 110 cm B10. Its taller cabinet gives a bigger, more resonant sound than the compact models while still fitting against a wall.
B Series Hammers with CFX-Derived Felt Processing
The B30's hammers are made with a felt-processing method taken from Yamaha's flagship CFX concert grand, which makes the most of the felt's natural elasticity. The result is a clear, pure tone with resonant sustain, so melodies sing out in every register.
Redesigned Soundboard and Five Back Posts

V-Pro Frame Cast by Yamaha
The B30 uses a V-Pro frame made at Yamaha's own piano frame factory using its vacuum casting process. The frame has to withstand more than twenty tonnes of string tension and also shapes the piano's sound, so making it in-house helps Yamaha keep quality consistent.
Wide, Full-Length Music Stand
The music stand runs the full length of the fallboard, so you can open several books or a long unfolding score without turning pages. Its deep top surface is finished in fine non-slip artificial leather to hold thick volumes steady.

What is the difference between the B10, B20 and B30?
All three share the same hammers, soundboard design, five back posts, V-Pro frame, wide music stand, soft-close fallboard and three pedals. The difference is size: the B10 is 110 cm tall (200 kg), the B20 116 cm (220 kg) and the B30 121 cm (232 kg). The taller B30 gives the fullest sound of the three.
Should I choose the B30 or the Yamaha U1?
Both are 121 cm tall with 153 × 62 cm cabinets. The U1 belongs to Yamaha's long-established U Series, held in high regard by professional pianists, while the B30 is the new-generation B Series model with CFX-derived hammer felt processing and a full-length music stand. Can I practise quietly on the B30?
The B30 has damper, muffler and soft pedals, and the muffler pedal is there for quieter practice. For silent practice with headphones, Yamaha offers the B30 with a SILENT Piano system (B30SC3) as a separate model, which YMS can advise on.
