Yamaha Revstar Element RSE20 Electric Guitar

The Yamaha Revstar Element RSE20 is the entry point to the Revstar series, Yamaha's café racer-inspired electric guitar range. It pairs a chambered mahogany body and a set-in three-piece mahogany neck with two Yamaha-designed VH3 Alnico V humbuckers and a push-pull Dry Switch on the Tone control.

It is aimed at players who want a stylish, straightforward dual-humbucker guitar for rock, blues, indie and pop, whether they are moving up from a first instrument or need a dependable guitar for rehearsals, recording and gigs. The shorter 24-3/4" scale and simple control layout keep it easy to get along with.

Key Features

Chambered mahogany body of the Yamaha Revstar Element RSE20 electric guitar

Chambered Mahogany Body

Every Revstar body is chambered using Yamaha's Acoustic Design process, which uses measurement, analysis and modelling to shape tone, cut weight and improve balance. On the RSE20 this gives a clear, full sound from the mahogany body and a guitar that stays comfortable on the strap during long sessions.

VH3 Alnico V Humbuckers on the RSE20

A VH3n humbucker sits at the neck and a VH3b at the bridge, both custom designed by Yamaha with Alnico V magnets. They cover warm neck-position leads, full chords in the middle position and punchy bridge-pickup rhythm parts, clean or with drive.

Push-pull Master Tone knob with Dry Switch on a Yamaha Revstar Element guitar

Dry Switch High-Pass Filter

Pull up the Master Tone knob to engage the Dry Switch, a passive high-pass filter that trims the low end for a brighter, tighter tone. Yamaha designed it as an alternative to a conventional coil split, without the added noise or drop in output that a split can bring.

Simple 3-Position Switching

A 3-position lever switch selects the neck pickup, both pickups or the bridge pickup, with a single Master Volume and Master Tone. The minimal layout reflects the Element range's stripped-back, Japanese-minimalist design brief and keeps tone changes quick on stage.

Set-In 3-Piece Mahogany Neck

The three-piece mahogany neck is set into the body and finished in satin polyurethane for a smooth feel. It carries a rosewood fingerboard with a 12" radius and 22 jumbo frets, a 41.9 mm nut width and a thickness of 21.0 mm at the first fret.

24-3/4" Scale Length

The RSE20 uses a 24-3/4" (628.6 mm) scale. Compared with a 25-1/2" scale guitar at the same tuning, the shorter scale means slightly lower string tension, which can make bends and vibrato feel more relaxed.

Tune-O-Matic Bridge and Stopbar Tailpiece

A Tune-O-Matic bridge lets each saddle be adjusted for accurate intonation, while a stopbar tailpiece anchors the strings. Die-cast tuners and a PPS nut complete the hardware, and the guitar ships with Elixir Nanoweb Light .010–.046 strings.

Five Café Racer-Inspired Finishes

Yamaha offers the RSE20 in Black, Neon Yellow, Vintage White, Red Copper and Swift Blue, all in gloss polyurethane. Swift Blue and Neon Yellow come with a 3-ply cream pickguard, and the other three with 3-ply black. Every Element model carries Yamaha's "Revstar" hanko stamp.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the RSE20 different from the Revstar Standard RSS20?

The RSE20 has a chambered mahogany body, a 3-piece mahogany neck, VH3 humbuckers, a 3-position switch and the Dry Switch. The Revstar Standard RSS20 adds a maple top, a carbon-reinforced neck, stainless steel jumbo frets, VH5 humbuckers, 5-way switching with the Focus Switch passive boost, and a deluxe gig bag.

How does it compare with the Revstar Standard RSS02T?

The RSS02T uses VP5 P90-style single-coil pickups and a racing tailpiece instead of humbuckers and a stopbar, along with the Standard range's maple top, carbon-reinforced neck, 5-way switch and Focus Switch. Choose the RSE20 if you prefer humbucker tone in a simpler package.

What does the Dry Switch do?

It is a passive high-pass filter engaged by pulling up the Master Tone knob. It reduces low end to give a brighter, tighter sound, and does so without the added noise or drop in output of a conventional coil split.

Is there a left-handed version?

Yes. The Revstar Element RSE20L is the left-handed version with the same specifications, offered by Yamaha in Black and Swift Blue. It is also available at YMS.

Does the RSE20 come with a case or gig bag?

No. Yamaha does not include a case or gig bag with the RSE20, so we recommend adding a gig bag or case for transport. It comes fitted with Elixir Nanoweb Light .010–.046 strings.

Who is the RSE20 best suited to?

It suits beginners stepping up to a quality instrument, intermediate players and gigging musicians who want dual-humbucker tone, a comfortable chambered body and a simple, practical control set.
