Yamaha PACIFICA112VM Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard

The Yamaha PACIFICA112VM is the maple-fingerboard version of the Pacifica 112V. It pairs an alder body and bolt-on maple neck with a maple fingerboard, Alnico V pickups and a vintage-style tremolo with block saddles.

It is a strong first serious electric guitar for students and a dependable workhorse for players who want one instrument for practice, recording and gigs. If you like the brighter look and feel of a maple fingerboard, this is the 112V variant to choose.

Key Features

Maple fingerboard on the PACIFICA112VM

Yamaha offers the 112V range with rosewood boards on most models, and maple on the 112VM and 112VMX for a brighter look and tone. The light-coloured board also gives the guitar a clean, classic appearance.

Alnico V H/S/S pickups

Two Alnico V single coils and an Alnico V bridge humbucker give a warmer, clearer tone than ceramic-magnet pickups. A five-position lever switch selects single, combined and humbucker sounds for clean, crunch and lead playing.

Push-pull coil split for extra versatility

Pulling up the Master Tone knob splits the bridge humbucker to give a single-coil bridge tone. That means sharper, thinner sounds for funk and pop parts, then full humbucker power again with a push of the knob.

The vibrato bridge moves smoothly for subtle shimmer or deeper dips while holding tuning well. Its heavy block saddles add depth to the tone and help notes ring out. A 5 mm screw-in arm is included in the spec.

Alder body and satin-finished maple neck

The alder body has a gloss polyurethane finish, while the bolt-on maple neck has a satin finish that stays smooth as you move along it. With a 25-1/2" scale, 13-3/4" radius and 22 medium frets, it feels familiar to anyone used to standard electric guitars.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PACIFICA112VM and the PACIFICA112V?

The electronics, hardware, body and neck specifications are the same. The difference is the fingerboard: the 112VM uses maple, while the 112V uses rosewood. Maple gives a brighter look and tone; colour options also differ.

How does the PACIFICA112VM compare with the PACIFICA112VMX?

Both have maple fingerboards, Alnico V pickups, coil split and the block-saddle tremolo. Yamaha India lists a satin polyurethane body finish and 3-ply black pickguard for the 112VMX, while the 112VM has a gloss finish and 3-ply white pickguard.

Is the PACIFICA112VM a good upgrade over the PACIFICA112J or PACIFICA012?

Yes. The 112J and 012 use ceramic pickups and have no coil split or block saddles, while the 112VM adds Alnico V pickups, a push-pull coil split and a vintage-style tremolo with block saddles. That gives a warmer, clearer tone and more sound options.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes. Yamaha positions the Pacifica 100 series as a great first guitar, and the 112VM's simple controls make it easy to learn on. Its pickup range keeps it useful as your playing improves.

What strings does it use and what else do I need?

Yamaha specifies 0.009–0.042 gauge strings. To start playing you will also need an amplifier and a cable, and a gig bag, strap and tuner are handy extras that the YMS team can help you choose.
