Yamaha PACIFICA112V Electric Guitar with Alnico V Pickups

The Yamaha PACIFICA112V is the core model of the Pacifica 100 series and the base for the 112VM and the 212 models. It combines an alder body, a bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, Alnico V pickups in an H/S/S layout and a vintage-style tremolo with block saddles.

It is an excellent first electric for students who want room to grow, and a versatile everyday guitar for hobbyists, home recordists and gigging players. The rosewood fingerboard gives a warm, classic look that suits almost any style.

Key Features

Alnico V pickups on the PACIFICA112V

Yamaha uses Alnico V magnets in the 112V's two single coils and bridge humbucker for a warmer, clearer tone than ceramic designs. The five-position lever switch covers neck, middle, bridge and in-between settings for clean, crunch and lead parts.

Push-pull Master Tone control on a Yamaha Pacifica 112V series guitar

Push-pull coil split

Pull up the Master Tone knob to split the bridge humbucker and get a single-coil bridge sound. Push it down for full humbucker output again. It is a quick way to add brighter rhythm tones without changing guitars.

Vintage-style tremolo with block saddles on a Yamaha Pacifica 112V series guitar

Vintage-style tremolo with block saddles

The vibrato bridge is smooth and responsive and keeps tuning steady. Heavy block saddles give a rich, deep tone and singing sustain. A 5 mm screw-in arm is specified.

Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard

The bolt-on maple neck has a smooth satin polyurethane finish and a rosewood fingerboard with a 13-3/4" (350 mm) radius. With 22 medium frets, a 41 mm nut width and a 25-1/2" scale, it feels comfortable for chords and lead lines alike.

Alder body with gloss finish

The alder body carries a gloss polyurethane finish in the colours YMS offers, with a 3-ply white pickguard. Controls are kept to master volume and master tone, so the guitar is easy to use from the first lesson onward.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the PACIFICA112V differ from the PACIFICA112J?

According to Yamaha's specs, the 112J has ceramic pickups, no coil split and a vintage-style tremolo without block saddles. The 112V upgrades to Alnico V pickups, adds the push-pull coil split and uses block saddles, plus a 3-ply rather than 1-ply pickguard.

Should I choose the PACIFICA112V or the PACIFICA112VM?

They share the same body, pickups, controls and hardware. The 112V has a rosewood fingerboard, while the 112VM has maple, which Yamaha describes as brighter in look and tone. Choose by the feel and appearance you prefer.

What does the PACIFICA212VQM add over the 112V?

Yamaha builds the Pacifica 212 on the 112V. The 212VQM adds a laminated quilted maple top with a translucent finish and a matching headstock, while the pickups, coil split and tremolo remain the same type.

Is the PACIFICA112V a good guitar for beginners?

Yes. Yamaha designs the Pacifica 100 series as a great first guitar, and the 112V adds better pickups and hardware than the entry PACIFICA012 and 112J. It remains a capable instrument as you progress.

What else do I need to start playing?

Yamaha specifies 0.009–0.042 gauge strings on the guitar. You will also need an amplifier and an instrument cable, and most players add a gig bag, strap and tuner; the YMS team can help you put a kit together.
