Product details
Two-Channel Class-D Power with Power Boost and Onboard DSP
The Yamaha PX5 is a two-channel, 2U Class-D power amplifier that delivers 500 W x 2 into 8 Ω and 800 W x 2 into 4 Ω (1 kHz, non-clip, 20 ms burst, both channels driven). Its newly developed amplifier engine concentrates the necessary functions into a single custom LSI chip, and the whole unit weighs 6.9 kg.
Onboard DSP provides crossover, filters, delay, limiter and PEQ, together with Yamaha's D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processing. Config Wizard assigns optimised settings for Yamaha passive speakers, with presets for the CBR, Club, Installation and VXS/VXC series.
Key Features
500 W x 2 at 8 Ω, 800 W x 2 at 4 Ω
Yamaha rates the PX5 at 500 W x 2 into 8 Ω, 800 W x 2 into 4 Ω and 500 W x 2 into 2 Ω, measured at 1 kHz, non-clip, 20 ms burst, both channels driven. That covers everything from a single pair of 8 Ω speakers to lower-impedance loads.
Power Boost mode for one high-power channel
Power Boost mode combines the output of both channels into one, giving 800 W x 1 into 8 Ω. It suits a single high-power-handling speaker, but halves the number of available channels.
Built-in speaker processing
Onboard processing includes input summing, high- and low-pass filters, delay of up to 74 ms and a speaker processor with 6-band PEQ, limiter and delay. D-CONTOUR multi-band dynamic processing helps keep the sound clear and consistent.
Config Wizard presets for Yamaha speakers
Config Wizard speeds up system setup by assigning optimised speaker settings. It includes presets tuned for each model in Yamaha's CBR, Club, Installation and VXS/VXC passive speaker series.
Eight user presets and panel lock
Store eight programmable presets for instant recall and save them to a USB thumb drive. A panel locking function keeps your settings safe once the system is tuned.
Professional inputs and outputs
Each channel has an XLR and a 1/4-inch TRS input, connected in parallel. Speaker outputs are provided on Neutrik speakON, binding posts and 1/4-inch phone jacks.
FAQ
Q. What is the PX5's power output?
500 W x 2 into 8 Ω, 800 W x 2 into 4 Ω and 500 W x 2 into 2 Ω, all at 1 kHz, non-clip, 20 ms burst, both channels driven, as specified by Yamaha.
Q. What does Power Boost mode do?
It combines both channels into one higher-power channel – 800 W x 1 into 8 Ω. The amplifier then works as a single-channel unit.
Q. Which speakers have presets?
Yamaha's Config Wizard includes presets for its CBR, Club, Installation and VXS/VXC passive speaker series. For other speakers, the crossover, filters, PEQ, delay and limiter can be set manually.
Q. How much rack space does it need?
Two rack units. The PX5 measures 480 x 88 x 388 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 6.9 kg.
