The Yamaha YFL-222 is a 200 series standard flute built for students. It pairs Yamaha's CY headjoint with covered (plateau) keys, an Offset G key system and drawn and curled toneholes, all made from nickel silver with a silver-plated finish.
It is aimed at beginners taking their first lessons and at school and ensemble players who want a dependable instrument that is forgiving to play. Yamaha supplies it with an FLC-220 case and FLB-200EII case bag.

CY Headjoint for Quick, Clear Response
Yamaha's CY headjoint combines a double-flare taper with a distinctive undercut on the embouchure hole. The result is an even, responsive feel and a warm, full sound, which helps new players get a good tone early on. Yamaha also shapes the lip plate on its student flutes to guide beginners towards using their breath properly.
Covered Keys on the YFL-222
Each key cup on the YFL-222 is closed, so the tonehole is sealed whenever the key is pressed down, even if a finger does not land exactly in the centre. That makes covered (plateau) keys a practical choice for learners still developing finger placement.
Offset G Key System
On the YFL-222 the G keys sit slightly out of line with the other toneholes. Many players find this Offset G layout easier and more natural for the left hand, which is why teachers often suggest it for beginners. The YFL-222 does not have a Split E mechanism.
Drawn and Curled Toneholes
The toneholes are drawn upward from the body tube itself and finished with a curled rim. Yamaha describes this construction as giving the flute a broad, light sound.
Silver-Plated Nickel Silver Flute
As shown in Yamaha's material chart for its 200 series, the YFL-222 uses durable nickel silver for the headjoint, lip plate, body, footjoint and keys, finished with silver plating. This keeps the instrument robust enough for daily practice, rehearsals and travel to lessons.

Adjustment Screws That Stay Put
Yamaha's screw resistance inserts let a technician make smooth adjustments while stopping the screws from gradually working loose. The screws are also positioned for easier access during servicing.
Footjoint Alignment Marks
Small marks on the body and footjoint show exactly where the two parts should line up. This helps young players assemble the YFL-222 correctly before each practice session.
