Yamaha V20SG Acoustic Violin Set (4/4)
The Yamaha V20SG is a complete full-size (4/4) violin outfit built around the V20G, a Guarneri del Gesu-inspired acoustic violin. Yamaha describes the V20G as producing a rich and sweet, yet powerful sound, and the set adds a VHC2 hard case, a Pernambuco bow and Schwarz rosin.
It suits full-size players who want a step up in tone and fittings, together with everything needed to play and carry the instrument. Yamaha highlights carefully selected woods and consistent quality from one instrument to the next.
Key Features
Guarneri del Gesu-inspired V20G Violin
At the heart of the set is the V20G, modelled on the Guarneri del Gesu pattern rather than the Stradivari pattern used on Yamaha's V10G and V7G. Yamaha voices it for a rich and sweet, yet powerful sound.
Carefully Selected Spruce and Maple
The V20G pairs a spruce top with maple back, sides and neck, and an ebony fingerboard. Yamaha says the wood is carefully selected and that, like its YVN Series violins, each instrument offers excellent sound, playability and consistent quality.
Hand-brushed Shading Oil Varnish
Every V20G is finished with a specially formulated shading oil varnish, applied fully by hand. Yamaha notes that this finish gives the violin a beautiful appearance and a warmer tone.
Boxwood Fittings Throughout
The pegs, tailpiece and chin rest are all boxwood, giving the V20SG violin a matched set of fittings; the V10G, by contrast, uses an ebony tailpiece and chin rest.
Aubert "luxe" Bridge with Parchment
The violin is set up with an Aubert "luxe" bridge fitted with parchment. A Wittner fine tuner on the E string helps with precise tuning of the thinnest string.
Dominant and Helicore Strings
The V20G comes strung with Dominant strings on G, D and A and a Helicore E string, so the set is ready to tune and play.
Complete Outfit: VHC2 Case, Pernambuco Bow and Rosin
The V20SG acoustic violin set includes Yamaha's VHC2 hard case to protect the instrument, a Pernambuco bow and Schwarz rosin, so you have everything you need from day one.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the Yamaha V20SG set?
Yamaha lists the V20SG as the V20G violin together with a VHC2 hard case, a Pernambuco bow and Schwarz rosin.
What size is the V20SG?
Yamaha lists the V20SG in 4/4 (full size) only. For a fractional-size instrument, the Yamaha V7SG set is made in 4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 sizes.
What is the difference between the V20SG and the V10G?
The V20SG is a complete set based on the Guarneri del Gesu-inspired V20G, with boxwood pegs, tailpiece and chin rest and an Aubert "luxe" bridge, plus case, bow and rosin. The V10G is a Stradivari-inspired violin sold on its own, with boxwood pegs, an ebony tailpiece and chin rest and an Aubert bridge. Both are 4/4 with a spruce top, maple body, hand-brushed shading oil varnish and the same Dominant and Helicore strings.
How does the V20SG compare with the V7SG?
The V7SG is a Stradivari-inspired beginner set with ebony fittings, a Wittner Ultra tailpiece with four fine tuners, Helicore strings and a Brazilian wood bow. The V20SG steps up to the Guarneri-inspired V20G with boxwood fittings, an Aubert "luxe" bridge, Dominant and Helicore strings, a Pernambuco bow and the VHC2 hard case.
Who is the V20SG best suited to?
It is a good fit for full-size players moving on from a beginner instrument who want a rich, warm and powerful tone and a complete outfit with a quality hard case and bow in one purchase.
